Ground down all of my visible welds, then finished up with a 150 DA to smooth them out further

Awesome craftsmanship! I never learned to weld, but going to give it a try with my new build. Watching a few youtube videos out there and will practice with some scraps. Can you recommend a good beginner video?

If you buy a decent mig welder set up most people can do it, Iv been looking at a new Miller 211 I believe the model is 120/220 capability, argon gas is such a added bonus. $1200 at my local welding supply

The rest is pretty easy, I do have a guy who does some neat videos I have watched in the past. I’ll see if I can dig it up

When it gets down to it you have few things to go wrong think two cycle motor.

To fast of wire or two slow
To much heat to low
Moving to fast moving to slow

Or some more detailed like direction your trying to weld but that comes with practice

Now to get going making the tabs to hold my bearings and my cable on the unistrut

Welded In the holes on the bearings tonight, going to drill them closer to the edges on the drill press at the other shop

Also picked up another time consuming tool

Got the vise jaws started


Started tinkering and more and more doubting my end result




Decided I didn’t like that at all.




Instead of welding on the angle iron I’ll bolt it on, weld the bearings to the angle, that way I can center the bed frame easier.

I have tested a lift and it does lift but like others have found. This sh** is going to be dead nutz on to lift even and not bind up.

The king of my doubt is I’ll be doing what Flboydid and having multiple cables from the top to lift up. But we all have to hit our thumb with the hammer first.

This is how I plan to attach the drive system under the bed.


I’ll bolt this to the plate, then weld said plate to the lower bed frame. I’ll need to wrap one thing around it so I don’t smash my head into it I guess

The other side will be similar but with a pillow block

$78 later for hardware and some new drill bits and a few dodads

I sure as hell hope it works like designed. If not I might just drop the hammer and go buy a toy hauler. Rebuild the cabinets inside and flip them every few years

Got the cables on, level as I could with only a four foot level. Not considering if the trailer is perfectly level lol

But it goes up rather smooth considering.

I do have similar concerns with the width that the cable gets to but!!! It works





I lowered the bed as low as I want it to go, then ran the cable, Used the turnbuckles to pick up the tension and release the straps. Then raised it up with the drill.

Slick is slick. Now to take it out and paint, finish weld the bearings which I am not even sure I need at the moment. Go with a guide similar to Flboy and the drive system from Brian.

Video to follow after I clean up my welding messes and put some tools away. Also need to get pins to set the bed frame on.
