6 X 10 (V-nose) build

During the winter I usually do a lot of off roading. Snow wheeling is my favorite.
The past 5 years or so I've noticed our winters have been starting later and later. Seems like the snow starts in Jan/Feb.
I'm actually going up to "the B" tomorrow to do some off road recoveries. Should be a fun day.

Shortly after it got really busy. Rescued about 10 vehicles and did some "Uber service" for some paragliders.

Valentines campout .

Before we went camping ,I made a quick elastic strap for the drawers.


On the way out during a snow storm in the middle of nowhere like:
What are we doing?


I ordered some new airbags but haven't arrived yet, so it's sitting a bit low in the back.

Our spot was available but had to get around a hidden tree stump.

A nice creek right next to camp.

I really wanted to fish but the wind kicked up.


So we explored in the jeep .
Took 2 trails about as far as we could.

While up there we Officially tested the heater buddy.
This was the temps just before bed .

It did well and we also used a fan to blow some warmth to the front of the trailer.
Notice the humidity was good ,,, but if you add some wet boots and jackets inside overnight . It adds humidity.
(Now we did have a window open about an inch for safety and it gets shutdown before we sleep. )

During the day testing))).
At first I put it on the floor and it shutdown itself in 20 mins.
So I placed it next to the open window. Ran fine after that.

Sleeping in our -5° bag , we kept warm all night.

The next morning I noticed frost on all the aluminum trim inside.
Even had a few small icesicles on the rear doors.
Couldn't get the heater buddy to fire up, so we cooked up some coffee and that actually helped warm it up enough to get out of the sleeping bag.

For next winter I'll be seriously thinking about a cubic mini stove.

I like my Cubic Cub, but it won’t last all night. You’d need to stoke it every two hours or so more when it’s really cold. I’m still considering a Dickinson diesel stove. I like them better than the Chinese bus heaters. You can run without the fan and if you put the diesel tank higher than the stove you can gravity feed.

Dirtsailer:;
You got me looking at the Dickinson solid fuel wood stove.
Looking at the dimensions of each.

Cubic cub.
12" -- H
11 -- W
10.5 -- D

Dickinson wood stove.
14" -- H
7.88 -- W
10 -- D

I've read you could be closer to $1000 with pipe for the Cub.

Now I have 2 locations I could install it.
1.) At the Left rear door and run the pipe with a elbow out the door.

2.) On the driver's side wall by the sink and run the pipe straight up.

Im leaning towards #1 cause of the ease of install and access .
#2 would be over the bed and that's not a good solution. It would be centrally located to heat better.

After the winter test I noticed the rear of the trailer has more moisture from wet boots and coats. I think #1 would help dry everything out but would need a fan to help push warm air forward.
Also I could still open that door if needed and easier to attach the exit pipe from the outside.

Before our next trip we've decided that front cabinet has to go.

Removed old cabinet last weekend.


Started making a new face using the same stuff the counters were made of. (Lightweight)
I figure I could just screw it to the wall inside the v-nose, then build the bottom from there.
In case anybody is wondering, its a 16" face X 66" length.



5 coates of urethane later.
We screwed it on last night temporarily.


Wife picked up some touch lights for the rear of the trailer. Kinda dark back there. Great lil lights have dimmers and rotate.

Worked on that a bit today.
Secured it to the wall.


Then Brad nailed a 1.5"x3/4" lip underneath for the floor to rest on.
Along with 2 strips on the wall.



Cut out the floor but already made a mistake.

Forgot to take account of the shape near the front.
Oh well, cut a new piece.


I slid the floor up into place, fits perfectly and its lightweight.


Now I just need to make doors.

Amazed at how much room inside while taking up less space.
16" deep in the middle.
Plenty of room for clothes.
