180 Degree Awning

Postby DWT77 » Tue May 18, 2021 8:07 am

I am looking at getting a 180 Degree Awning

There might be a small problem that needs to be worked out from what I can see.

They use straps that connect to the other side of the vehicle to tighten the awning.

On my teardrop the hatch raises pretty high and my concern is the straps would get in the way of opening/closing the hatch.

Does anyone have a 180 awning and how did you work this out, if it was a problem for you? or if anyone has any suggestions I might incorporate?

Thanks

I do see how that can be an issue, maybe two anchor points, on hatch up one hatch down. That does not solve the issue if you open and close the hatch a lot.

But I dont think your paranoid and its a good question.

I looked at trying a 180. I would have gone with OVS if I had. In the end I chose an ARB 2500, mine even has the light strip.
Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

I was thinking maybe doing another attachment point on the drivers side of my roof rack with a pulley and then over to the passenger side? Might work

I dont think that would work, it needs the angle pull to help stay open, may anchor to the ground or a tree.

I agree, I don’t think that will work. What about a telescopic tube mounted to your roof rack that could extend back and attach to the awning to hold it open

Telescopic pole could work. I think there could be two ways to go about it.

Vertical so the pole extends above the hatch

Horizontal so the pole extends past the hatch. Might require a longer pole though

I like you first option the best. I was thinking to have it on the same side as the awning. You could have a short fixed strap to secure the awning at the back and then tension up the awning with the front strap.

The 420 Poly cotton Ripp stop canvas Material are you failure with it & Like it?
I picked a material for a boat top for practice late last fall; It faded Horribly, but seamed to be water tight!
Could have bought one done for what I paid
And I will be looking a Rick's rack again soon
Racking up; And Rapin foam
