Parking your trailer at a hotel?

Postby Mountainhwy4 » Sun Jun 06, 2021 9:58 am

Hey y’all,
We’re going to be doing a cross country road trip this summer and there are going to be some spots where we want to go to a hotel (D.C., Houston, etc) and we wanted to know the feasibility of bringing a teardrop to park there. Will they try to charge extra for parking? If they don’t allow trailers in the parking lot, are there spots we can bring the trailer overnight that are safe?

I guess I’m also asking if anyone’s got a recommendation for a hotel in DC that is teardrop friendly? We’re staying at cherry hill campground for a few nights and we’re hoping to stay in a hotel for the last couple nights. Thanks!

Not that I've ever actually thought that on a trip.... /s

Ask before booking.

Out of downtown area will be easier, DC Metro is a fantastic resource.

I doubt Texas has good public transport though, but maybe more used to trailers

I’m not familiar with towing a trailer around DC but I have towed my 8’ cargo trailer all over the West and never had a hotel I was staying at not accommodate it. I’ve paid a fee a couple times too.
Also you might ask Cherry Hill campground if they have dry storage. I’ve payed to leave my travel trailer in private campgrounds out here too.

Trailers of all kinds are stolen from hotel parking lots in Albuquerque all the time. When they aren't stolen, many are broken into. Sad to say, but true.

If coming here, I'd recommend staying out of town (maybe Edgewood), and using hitch locks, chains, etc. I'd check the stats. in any city you plan on visiting.

I have never had an issue at all parking at the Hotel but I also carry a thick aircraft cable with a huge lock and lock the trailer to the truck at night.

Your not gonna find a hotel in DC that will let you take the trailer there. They are already very limited on parking space.

Your best best is to stop as a self storage and offer them 20 bucks to let you keep it there for a few days.

I live in Houston Metro. What aprt of the area are you visiting? If you are going down toward Galveston, the parking at the Kemah boardwalk / hotels typically allow for trailers, just go to the outer lots. The cetral lot is pretty tight, and of course avoid the parking garage...

Much of in Housotn proper, I wouldn't want to leave my camper unattended...
