Has it been anyone else's experience that a larger garage just gives more room for more stuff. You know, stuff expands to fill the space available.

I'm a Christian, but I'm not about to say any such thing. Last I checked, it is written, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." IMHO that doesn't leave a lot of room for finger-pointing at gays - or anyone else, for that matter.

I used to be able to get a car and all my woodworking tools into a one car garage. The car would move out when I was building a project. Then I made the mistake of buying an Expedition that wouldn't fit in the garage, and that was my downfall. Since I had the extra space where the vehicle used to fit, I could now buy more (and bigger) power tools. When that space filled up with tools, I had to find a place where I had work area. I found some land with a 60x60 barn that I almost didn't buy because I thought the barn was too big for my needs. I have been amazed that in five years, I have almost outgrown the barn space with tools and projects.

For me, the universe absolutely abhors a vacuum, and it fills the void with tools, projects, wheeled vehicles, wood scraps or just plain junk. And the only clean and organized shop I have ever had was, well, I never had one!

And my house and living area aren't even in the same galaxy of neat and clean as some of those shops!

Geez, I have a one-car garage. In there is a small workbench, tool cabinet, two sailboards, couple sets of skis, snow shoes, an MGA with two dead batteries, and some storage cabinets. Oh yeah, also two cat litter boxes. There is no way I could have a garage that clean.

This is how our garage that is attached to the house looked after I built us cabinets for 3 walls. Now the teardrop takes up half of it. I still need to replace the trim paint the walls and floor. Jane loves a clean garage. My shop is in the back yard. Danny

My dad drilled it into mine and my brothers heads when we were young to always put his tools back where you got them from,and to clean up the mess that we made in his shop. After a while it just became habit. Now that I have my own workshop I find that it is a lot easier to go to task the next day with a clean space. (no searching for misplaced tools or parts)

Rick's story about his father drilling into their heads that if you use my tools put them away - remains me about my father. My father was a master joiner and he was a fanatic about his tools - many were custom made - One year we were refinishing the kitchen and got it all done. Tools neatly cleaned and put back - I guess I was about 13. A couple weeks later my Dad asked "Where did you put my - (fill in the blank) - tool" I said I put everything he gave me back. Well over the years he would ask me " Where did you put it - I can't find it....." Well - a few years later we were doing some minor remodeling - and we had to remove some cabinets and replace a sofit. - So my Dadcut into the sofit and laying nicely in the sofit - You guessed it - was the missing tools. He casusal took them out of the sofit and told me " Put these away" I cleaned them up and put them back in the workshops. I have those tools today - And I still can't get the boys to put stuff away..........
