JP I just bought a 10"DO myself last week. :D
Now I need to know how to cook in it; maybe some lessons for the ones that are experenced to us newbes in DO.

Thanks Julie for the selection of camp sites. I think you made the right decision on the camp sites.

I would be glad to give you a demonstration on the campout. If you haven't figured it out by then. Some of the newer DO's come pre seasoned. If not rinse it out with warm water, and dry it. Then coat it with crisco inside and out. If you have a covered charcoal grill bake it at low heat several hours. You can do it in the oven if you don't mind smoking the house. It will be ready to use. There is lots of information on the web. You might try www.idos.com .

:D Looks like the Giese's will try out our teardrop in Oklahoma! Our plans for Mena, Arkansas fell through so we haven't taken the former "coca-cola teardrop" out yet. Anyone ever try to sleep 3 in one of these? My husband and I aren't tiny and neither is our 14 year old son. Hmmm, might be kinda cozy!

Thank you Julie for all the leg work. We will show up where every you decide and love it. ;)

JP, I have a 12 inch but I seasoned it slow, the way the sticky said and it doesn't look quite the way I remember.

I may bring it anyway. Couldn't hurt. Haven't cooked in one though. Have it's counterpart for my stove.

I think a DO Cook-off would be fun. Chef or I neither one cook with DO's (on a campfire) and would like to learn. We saw some things on the Food Network that we'd love to try. :awesome:

Hey all.... just reviving this old thread.... We're still on for Sept 15-17 at Grand Lake, I've got to get back to my Jewel Box building!!! Found my roof/ceiling material this weekend, but no $ to buy it yet.

I really want to drive up there and check out the campground , so maybe this coming Saturday will do that. Or cut the galley hatch...hmmmm...

Everybody got it on their calendar? Looking forward to it???

With any luck I will make it to Grand Lake, if nothing else but to get a chance to meet everyone. I hope the temps don't get back into the 100's for that weekend. After all, it is Oklahoma ya' never know.

I know what you mean, Pat.... I'm needing to buckle down and work on mine... even with this heat! haha.... and hopefully have the hitch on my car - yikes!!! YOu know there's always tarps and straps...

Jody... you HAVE to come by , at the very least!!!

Bernice State Park is close to the water, so if we do end up staying there and it's hot then being by the water will help.

More to come....

Well, folks another week went by and I didn't have the heart to drive up there to the park and check things out. Gas is still about $2.87 / gallon here and I'm broke, ya know all that $$ goes to the Jewel Box.

But good news... Phil did more work on the fuse box. I got the doors cut out, the windows cut out, dryfitted, and the supports done today. It's gonna get back up to about 105* later this week! Yikes!!!

My plan is to get the doors, roof and hitch on my car by Labor Day. SO the Jewel Box may be kinda plain but I'll hoping to be campable and NO TENT FOR ME!!!

:D Hitch up the wagon ma, we're going to Grand Lake! Our previous plans for that weekend were canceled, so we're able to attend the Bernice gathering! We were in the neighborhood Saturday so we stopped at the park and looked around. Should be a great place for a gathering! Close to the lake, good facilities, nature trail and nature center. A southerly breeze skimming over the water, and the sound of the waves racing up the bank, 3 days may not be enough!

See everyone there!

YEAH!!!!! I mean, too bad about the other plans but GOOD FOR US !!! Get to see you all again!!! I'll add ya to the list. In fact, I was thinking about calling the manager up there again just to remind him about all us coming and holding him to his promise!!

Thanks for going by Bernice St Park and giving a report! Did you think the shaded spots were good? I will ask the manager if we can double up or park any teardrops on grass (I doubt that) ..

My only concern about the park was that it might be too close to the water, and not enough shade. But Honey Creek is way too steep and tight tight turns and pads.

So Bernice is 45 days away !!! keep building y'all... Chase, Pat, Todah ... oh and ME!!!
