Lifting The TTT An Inch

Postby Dahlia47 » Fri Jul 09, 2021 8:59 pm

We noticed when we bought our TTT that the wheel covers (?) were right above the wheels. Not the wheel wells. It is part of the wheel well, but it rests just covering the top of the outside wheel. On our last trip, it looks like it rubbed the wheel a couple of times, Not too bad. So I would like to lift it maybe an inch. I am paranoid. I am thinking it's a bit top-heavy by a tad. The current outside dimensions are 10X5X7. If we lift it 1 inch above the wheel, will it be too top-heavy?
When we travel, ALL the weight is on the bottom and towards the neck. It pulls very nice! I am just afraid of top-heaviness.
We looked up how to lift it, it should be very easy. If 1 inch is too high, will 1/2 inch be ok?

As the owner of a 4 inch lifted Jeep, I would think a 1 inch lift on your trailer will be just fine. If the trailer becomes nose-down when attached to your tow vehicle, you can get a 1 inch raised hitch for very little money to level it out.
My off-road camper build on an M116A3 military chassis:

Tow vehicle: 2008 Jeep Liberty with a 4 inch lift.

"If we lift it 1 inch above the wheel, will it be too top-heavy?" Yes and no...

It will be 1" more top-heavy than it is now, but what's the difference? If it's hitting inside the wheel wells, an inch might be enough, but it might not. You could add an inch with an extra leaf in the springs (pictures help, as we can't see your problem) or a new axle, spring perches or through a different method. What's the center of gravity already, then add an inch & see what happens to handling or cornering. Can you lift the fenders?
