'Gull Wing' door hinge

Hi everyone,

After a hiatus for home projects and a new job I'm getting back into designing a teardrop.

I stumbled across this design (from a now defunct company) and wonder if anyone can identify the hinge on these gullwing (top hinged) doors?

No idea but I did find this one. Its the hurricane style but has a gutter.

saltydawg . that a sweet hinge . .if you could by by the inch are make a end cap to have pass the side wall would be hard to beat . I believe the other is call a live hinge shop around these guys are known for insane prices. The hinge Scott found is hard to beat with that gutter all so call a Snail hinge

That's the key I guess, making sure the door doesn't funnel water into the interior when it's open. But it's the same problem with a galley hatch. Doesn't a regular hurricane hinge do the job?

Other than the cool factor, what are the advantages of gull wing doors?

I’ve always thought they’d make you stoop while getting in.

Thanks guys, Saltydog that hinge looks pretty good!

Tony I'm 6'1, unless I go with a silly tall off road suspension ( ) I'll be stooping to get into most Teardrops. (I bought your book and am learning a ton!)

That or smack your head as you exit. I suppose if it opened high enough......or swing up and forward like a Lamborghini.

With a side-opening door, you turn around and sit in the doorway. There isn't anything that overhangs that you need to duck from. No stooping. I'm 5' 9" and with a slight nod of my head, I'm inside.

I could have made my doors 38" high, I suppose, and not have to nod my head to get in, I suppose. But it's just reflexive muscle memory.

Something to consider. But if you want a gull-wing, go for it of course. There's probably a reason that cars with gull wings open almost vertically.
