I hope Castro doesn't die--tonight.

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I think that Cuba is so detached from all of our day to day lives…and that this ""situation" has been discussed so long...I don't think that even we can escalate this discussion to the point of getting pissed at each other.

But who knows.

But from my perspective, it's not that we couldn't "bully" him into submission. From day one, he ranted and raved against the U.S., and sided with the Russians--who WERE our real enemy.

And there's just no getting past the point that he's a DICTATOR, one who blames all of his problems on the U.S., no less.

And gee, doesn't THAT sound familiar!
Here we go again!

Hi

In the chicken and egg race, I think USA started on Castro first

A few Quotes

A timeline released by the National Security Archives shows the US began planning to overthrow the government of Cuba in October, 1959.[47] On April 17, 1961, approximately 1,400 members of a CIA-trained Cuban exile force landed at the Bay of Pigs, while the United States denied any involvement.

In February 1960 Cuba signed an agreement to buy oil from the USSR. When the US-owned refineries in Cuba refused to process the oil, they were expropriated, and the United States broke off diplomatic relations with the Castro government soon afterward.

In June 1960, Eisenhower reduced Cuba's sugar import quota by 7,000,000 tons, and in response, Cuba nationalized some $850 million worth of US property and businesses. The revolutionary government grabbed control of the nation by nationalizing industry, expropriating property owned by Cubans and non-Cubans alike, collectivizing agriculture, and enacting policies which it claimed would benefit the population. While popular among the poor, these policies alienated many former supporters of the revolution among the Cuban middle and upper-classes.

Documents released by the National Security Archive show that the CIA expected the Cuban people to welcome a U.S.-sponsored invasion, spontaneously rising up against the Castro regime. It expected Cuban military and police forces to refuse to fight against the CIA's 1400-man mercenary invasion force.

What is so "Jingoistic" about this thread?

Troll Troll Troll

If you look at the original post, it is Ira complaining about having to drive into Miami.

...such ancient claptrap that all I can say is troll, troll, troll...go elsewhere Mr. Troll and maybe you will find what you so dearly desire...Castro has been nothing more than an old joke here at least since the USSR died (maybe your heroes)...the only ones who care are a couple of madhatter neocons and the CA community in Miami.....

Hi Jack, all

Seems strange that you call it claptrap, its a matter of public record in the US

Not my heroes, Castro or the USSR but I do tend to seek the truth rather than "false history"

What is it Land of the Free, but only if you agree regardless?

But if you fully check the history the USA as been interfering in Cuba since the 1890's maybe even before.

Remember the Maine!!!

Geeze, guys -- get over it already. Castro's come thru his surgery just fine, but he's 80 already. It's only a matter of time until Cuba gets dragged kicking and screaming into the ... well, okay, 20th ... Century.

Yeah, get over it. The people in Miami (little Havana) have been cheering all week for Castro's return to health. ( I think they are anyway). If not what would they be cheering for. Castro's death????
Seems like a nice guy to me, but then I never have had a dictator as a ruler.

Who knows , maybe Cuba will be our next State. Why not Cuba, then Puerto Rico. Better us than Venezuela.

Laredo, George is just doing what he does so well. Ruffle the feathers of someone and then run away screaming "It was'nt my fault".
Please be aware that he does not join in with the general feel of this forum and the only constructive advice he has to offer, generally, degenerates into flaming of some sort. Note how the electrical secrets thread has gone awfully quiet.
MJ, my definition of a troll is- A ficticious gnome like creature, that lives under bridges and scares little children

MJ, I hope you know I didn't think they were cheering for his recovery. I'm not sure Raul is much of an improvement though. Oh well, he's not young either. It's a matter of time before things change Bigtime in Cuba. :applause:
