A little about myself

first off this is i aka rasputin aka raspunator aka alan
now that the shock has worn off. i spent over 8 years fixing f4j's and spent the last 23 years repairing inidustial equiptment from electrical to welding, programing plc's and wrenching.
i do astronomy, photography, woodworking, pc's, camping and kayaking. built two kayaks and it is now time for a tear. tears have been on my mind for 5 or six years.

Glad you have decided to take the plunge and get one going. Have you actually started a build? a plan? My advice -- seek out a campout / gathering or a fellow Michigan there and see one in person.

an alite 400 slowed the urge to do a tear and it spurred on the tear this summer. nice camper but no room as it is only 5x6

have had the ZZ ref before, and no, never in a rock band.

the beard has been here since september 1971. not always this colour. it's where all the grey went, though as you can see it's almost full. oh well, time now for the top to turn

i spend a few days smelling like a pickle, while building my kayaks. as the only thing i used to clean up from epoxy mess was vinegar, and yep got epoxy in my beard and hair a few times

with the right kayak design it's only a 40 hour build from plans to complete, not counting watching the epoxy harden. did an 18 and a 17 foot.

yep, from plans to done in 40 hours. they are sea yaks. here's a shot of me and mine. it's a stitch and glue with plans from CLC.



some folks take longer, but with good planning it goes better.

did a week paddle around Isle Royal National Park in Lake Superior. me and 60 lbs of gear.
