Cabinet Finish

What is the general consensus on finish on drawers and interior cabinets. Put finish on or no need ? I never finished interior on any furniture I have made before.

I finish mine. The cabinet maker that built our kitchen cabinets used pre-finished Baltic. It really looks nice.

We've spilled things in ours! The finish is there to protect the wood (from us!)

I used pre catalyzed lacquer, but for the best protection conversion varnish is the best.

Thanks Fellas. I am building them out of BB and will now finish them with probably poly. Just completed building the drawers for the galley using the quarter quarter method which is new to me. Apparently watched an in correct YT video so they're .5" too wide. Should have just stuck with the way I have made them for years. Glad I figured that out before the glue set.

I used the "cheap" floor-finish polyurethane from Home Delay. Thin the first coat 30%, then a full coat or two & that's all it takes. As far as a stain goes with the Baltic Birch, I went with a very light coat of maple to add a bit more grain, but kept it on the light side of color. A small galley or cabin area with dark stain looks too much like a cave to me...

I used poly and theylook great 13 years later
