Popping Breakers - Safe Shore Power

I was reading another message thread on "popping breakers" and it occurred to me that though whole discourse that nobody mentioned checking "shore" power outlet before "plugging in" either at home or away.

Seems to me that people would WANT to know if shore power was safe before connecting...

This simple tool would verify shore power before you plugged in and would go a long ways to insure your connection and appliances inside may be safe.



And they are NOT really expensive....

You are definately correct, Dale. That is a helpful little device. It has been mentioned within many threads, so would probably be hard to find. Good to bring it up to everyone's attention once again, though.

Okay Dale, so what's it called. Can't see too many going to the local big box and asking for that "doovalacky" thing for checking voltage

Its a RECEPTACLE TESTER.....

IT comes in two versions... One "standard" and one with push button for testing GFI receptacles and breakers...

I've got a reverse polarity tester you would really like. It is built into my electrical panel and if there is a problem with the power source the main breaker will trip and not reset. It also has a red LED to tell you about the reverse polarity condition.

Actually I was not thinking beyond a extension cord for battery charger....

Shore power where I camp would require about a 15 mile extension cord...

Which brings up another question!... Is your cord for shore power rated big enough to actually carry the load your "system" is wired for....

Was in hardware store today and happened to look at a 50 ft. 12 gauge 3 conductor cord, it was rated at only 15 amps.... What is your cord rated at?

Nope.... Worked in a industry that required every receptacle we installed to be tested when done... Learned to believe in them.... Just for **giggles** you may want to test receptacles in your house and garage...
