Generator needs to run furnace fan?

I know generators have been discussed alot around here.

I've been thinking about getting a portable generator for emergency use (ice/winter storms) mainly to run my furnace fan. I've searched for info and some people claim that they run their furnace fan on a 1000watt generator with no problems. I've found a reasonably priced 1850/1500 watt generator and wondered if it would do the job o.k. I have a gas furnace and it runs through a 15amp breaker. I can't find the info anywhere on/in the furnace as to the motor size, but I'm guessing it is a 1/3 hp motor perhaps?

Anyone here had experience doing this?

A 1k genny should run just about any furnace but an electric one. I've done it plenty of times. Now some of the old furnace starters require a serious starting voltage for their initial start up.

We have a Lenox G-61 high efficiency furnace. Last winter I discovered that the motor would not operate at low speed while on my generator, a 7000 watt unit. I know that the voltage was good, I'm thinking that it's something to do with how clean the power is, and the electronics. I would think that a regular furnace wouldn't have any trouble.
