Punkin Center, Colorado
Apparently a farmer built a store at a rural crossroads in the 1920s. As he added more buildings, he painted them all pumpkin colors. It was never more than a village, if that, but it all burned down in the 1950s. There's still a sign at the crossroads, though.
There's also a Model, Colorado. It is generously referred to as an "unincorporated community," and it does have a post office. I guess you have to turn off on the dirt road to find it. I have only seen the sign on the highway and a few fallen-down buildings. I don't know the story of the town, but my grandfather was born there.
