Propex noise?

Postby VanIsledave » Tue Sep 17, 2024 6:30 pm

We’ve been using our teardop extensively and have decided to add a propex heater to extend the camping season. The simplest location for the unit is in our “basement” under our mattress; it’s a really good fit. The plan is to run the ducting behind and out the top of our headboard. The combustion piping and propane line will run down through the floor and be secured to the frame.

The one thing I’m unsure of is if the noise from the unit will keeps us awake. It will be pretty much right under our heads but covered by a 1/4 inch plywood hatch and a 4 inch foam mattress. Any thoughts, opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the advice! Testing it first is a really wise idea, I’ll give that a shot.

They are quiet. We use ours to warm up the cabin as we get in and then in the morning, but it doesn't run while we sleep. It just isn't needed. If it were freezing, we would.

You can get noise-reducing duct for the output that helps, but it's spendy. I'd hold off until you decide you really need it.

You'll love that little blue box.

I appreciate you sharing your experience, Tony. And for sending Deb the part number for the npt to bpst adapter. Finding that on the McMaster Carr website would’ve taken me quite awhile!
