6x12 build

Postby Pnelson 316 » Thu Dec 12, 2024 5:19 am

Hey guys I'm new to the forums, wanted to show my 6x12 build. This trailer is a 1997 Homesteader my father bought home when I was a kid. He used it as a construction trailer and I've been working on it the past 2 years.

Version one:174229

That was after I rebuilt all the framing.

Version 2:174231

This is after I found this website and studied all the builds.

174230

Walk in shower stall. Using rubber membrane underneath LVP flooring, covered the walls with aluminum trim coil.

174232

The door has been broken into multiple times. I paneled over thinking I'll never use it. I repaired the door and built a place for the AC.

I'll post more as I go. Next I'm going to add a instant hot water heater so I can use the shower.

Thanks guys. Im going to try and take more pics as I go. I don't have a good place to work on it so I'm always in a hurry when working.

Next on the list is to add a vent, the trailer has no vents. I was thinking to install a 14×14 vent close to the center of the trailer. I'd like to install a wall vent in the shower. I don't have the room to put it the ceiling due to the ceiling joints.

Any tips on how to install in a finished ceiling?

I was thinking I could cut the 14×14 hole in the roof and ceiling. Use the joist as part of the framing and add 3 boards to box it in. How do you guys go about water proofing? Screw it down, tape over, and cover in self leveling sealant?

Thank you. It started out a simple motocross trailer, well it actually started as a construction trailer. Once I got it from my Dad I was going to pull the shelves out and rebuild the rear doors( for the 3rd time ).

I pulled the shelves out and that's where the fun began. The shelves were actually supporting the walls. Once the shelves were out the wall could be pushed out 3 to 4 inches very easily. I thought the trailer was trash at that point.

I pulled the interior sheathing off and found 1x2 framing, in decent condition. The staples had come loose from the studs the bottom plate. The trailer had a leak in the roof from the factory I just found 6 months ago. The builders cut through the roof when cutting the trim for the edges. I would caulk around the area and the leak always came back. I fixed the leak and coated the roof with Henry's.

I rebuilt all the framing by gluing and screwing 1x2's to all the existing framing. I ended up cutting out the ceiling joints and just replacing them. Covered the ceiling in Luan, used 3/8 for the walls. I used LVP for the flooring and I'm very happy with it. At this point I thought I was finished with the trailer.

I then found this website and have been adding and adding to the trailer. I figured out that I'll never actually be finished with the trailer.

I built a cabinet for the hot water heater and replaced the trim covering the trailer wiring.
