Mini Air Conditioner

Postby kokomoto » Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:59 pm

We've camped in our first TD for 7 years, and seemed to do just fine without an air conditioner. The ceiling fan and an extra cheap fan for and extra breeze in the summer. However, I stumbled across a small window AC that has me rethinking AC in a TD. It measures 12 H x 18 W x 15.6 D and is 6,000 BTU. They can be found for a bit under $330

Does anyone have one of these?

I don't have that unit but I don't see anything u ique about it either. I picked up a 5000 bru unit from Walmart earlier this year for $99. Its dimensions are smaller than this one.

Any particular reason you are looking at this one.

Other than I stumbled upon a YT video of a guy that had one installed in his homebuilt TD, and seemed to be happy with it. I guess I didn't realize that these compact units were common now. The window units I've seen up to now were a bit larger.

Not sure why that AC is $330. I got a new 5000 btu for $100 that freezes us out of our trailer. I did spend around $350 on the Maxx Fan. Go figure. I will make a suggestion regardless of which one you go with. Get the measurements of a few different 5000btu units. You will find they're all very similar in size. Rough your opening to fit the largest one. That way down the road and you need to change it out, you wont have to worry about fit. Very easy to trim out any gaps. Yup, it's 20 degrees outside and we talking ACs!

years ago (early '90's) $300+ = was common for one of these small 5000btu size air conditioner's = they were still the freon based versions than. And yes, I paid about $360+ for the one for my bedroom in '92 having had to buy it from Sears being it was the only one I could find at the time. Now since then, with WM finally showing up here in my 'neck of the woods' (late '90's) along with the China goods 'invasion' into our markets, these units are very common everywhere now. (but = with no more freon) Yearly in the spring time I see them stacked up for sale (about $125+ on up) when entering the W-M's front doors (= many diff sizes) than toward 'fall time' they = what's left in stock - ends up on display at the back of the store (auto area) exit = for less than $100. And yes = being the one in my bedroom is still working after 30+ years = there is a 'extra' new one still sitting here I got a few years back at W-M for $73 in reserve for when it dies....... But the way it is going - it could end up being the one 'dying' from just sitting...........that or... me :frightened:  take care..........
