Great PBS Show--Animusic

I never saw anything like this in my life:

I was scanning the channels this morning looking for programs with girls with big boobs in bikinis and lingerie, and I came across "Animusic" on PBS.

I don't have any background info on this yet, but here's the deal:

Some geniuses somewhere created these huge, and I mean HUGE machines. (There are several.) The machine can take up like an entire warehouse space, more or less.

Well, it "spits" hundreds and hundreds of balls, that then perfectly strike dozens and dozens of instruments--xyophones, drums, piano strings, gongs, who knows what else. And the music is phenomenal and the synchronization and aim is mind-boggling:

A large ball is spit to hit a hit a string maybe 1/8" thick. It hits it perfectly. And then perfectly bounces off into a receiving receptacle for subsequent spitting.

But I'm talking about a hundred balls all going at the same time!!!

Check your local PBS website and don't miss this one. It's simply beyond description.

The weirdest thing is I just went to the PBS site to do a search, and I couldn't find it there.

...don't know if it is still playing BUT there are many versions of this that used to play on TechTV, now called G4TV...and it is truly as awesome and mind boggling as Ira states...

Are there in fact actual machines that somebody built? Sounds unlikely to me. But I'm old and disgruntled, so take it for what it's worth.

Well, yeah.....I knew that. I just didn't want to burst Ira's bubble.....you know how sensitive he can be.

Should we tell him in person, or will a phone call do?

As for the actual Animation show, I can watch about 3 minutes before I lose interest. On the other hand I can watch the original Fantasia repeatedly.

Ira, Animusic is all ANImated MUSIC. Those guys created VIRTUAL everything, and along with the music, each instrument has a "pose" or position... Each musical note may have the instrument in thousands of poses for ONE note of music.

I have both their CD and a video tape. I recommend the CD of course....

And Ira, if you think you are by the above, wait till you see some of the other instruments... Such as a "violin" where the bow floats in space while it is bowing the violin...

This is effin' hysterical to me.

And no--I'm NOT that embarrassed. It doesn't LOOK animated in the least. Also, the two clips I saw were all mechanical looking--nothing floating in the air or anything.

Gee, I was just about to start building one!

And Kirt, there's good-spirited poking fun, and then there's just nasty. And I can read the posts and actually tell which is which!

But as some of my prior posts can illustrate, these are cotton balls you're throwing at me here. Brooklynites aren't typically renowned for their niceties. I've just been behaving myself lately.
