Home budget/finances!

Postby elmo » Tue Aug 15, 2006 7:42 pm

Evening all!

Currently using the Quicken 2005 software, does anyone use a home budget/finance program that they like & is easy to use?

Thanks in advance!

You have to be a little careful of those finance software makers. They plan on built in obselesence. They won't support it after a few years forcing you to "upgrade". Sometimes it's easy because you can get them free with Turbo Tax or whatever.

My wife handles all the finances....That's why she got the coins when we were married. <-some may get that

I always did it on paper before and I did get it with the Turbo Tax thingy. I loaded it a couple of days ago and like the idea just not the program.

There are several programs on this page:

I use this one, works similar to MS Money:

All of those programs are freeware/donationware.

My wife is a QUICKEN guru. She puts everything in it. Ever bit of cash spending is recorded. And I tell you at tax time - a few pushes of the keys and the necessary reports are pumped out.

AF is right about planned obselesence in these software. I really don't understand why. It seems to be the same as the geneology software too. The are constanly changing the software.

But with any of these software packages you need to feed it on a regular basis and make sure you are capturing your actual expenses. The discipline of collecting and recording your expenses is what people don't do. However - my wife likes doing it

I glad my wife didn't keep track of my build budget.
