My kid is now legal to hunt game in the state of California.
He passed his Hunter's Safety Test this evening!!!
That means he can fill my freezer up with venison this Fall.

I guess this means you have more time ot work on your teardrop and not worry about getting cold in the woods.

I passed my hunters education back in 1994. This year we have a 5 deer bag limit, and an extended doe/spike season. Hopefully I get to make some sausage this year.

'94, wow. I did that in '71!..... not sure I could pass it now tho!!!

We have a deer exterminating contest here every year now, as many tags as your are willing to pay for/can get. Before long they'll have the deer herds down to what they were in the 70's.

I did not mention that I was 22 when I took the class. 1994 was my first year hunting. My first deer was a 10 point, and dressed at 105lbs (That is good sized around these parts). Sad thing is, I hunt about 100 yards from my house, but I have not hunted in 4 years. just no time.

I think I took the class as a Scout and after I got my first 22. That had to be '70 of '71. Do I feel old or what? I still have my card. It was blue back then.

I am with you Sunny I think I was 13 or 14 years old when I took my hunters safety course '70 or '71. I had a 303 british. Still got the same gun haven't use it in many years.

AM, don't feel bad, I was grandfatherd in as well...however, I attended the toughest hunting classes of all...my old uncle's hunting school of hard knocks...hard knocks are very effective learning tools...I think I still have a couple of knots from those knocks

I had been going to the classes with him, as I haven't hunted in years and no expired license, card or proof to show for...
I was gonna crack open the book on the night before the test and decided to look one more time. I found my hunters safety card from 1973, so I didn't have to retest afterall. I did help out on the testing, reading the questions out loud to younger kids who needed assistance. I wouldn't have aced the test, but I woulda easily passed. There's been several law changes here in California that I was unaware of...
I abruptly stopped hunting in 1981, afetr an idiot mistook me for game... took a shot at me. I've traded auto glass work for deer meat ever since.
My boy and I won't be hunting on public land, just private...

Guess that differs state-to-state; I remember taking my safety class when I was about 14 or 16..on Sept 4..I'll be 70..you count 'em.

I am considering becoming an instructor and teach some youngsters at a local Bible camp .

Having given my TD to my Marine grandson ( just back from Ramadi area in Al Anbar prov.) & his wife...I'm building a new one..

Since I plan on using it hunting as well as travel and my blacksmithing demos, I left out the galley, made it 4X10 allowing 4' room ahead of the 10" raised bunk.

I will have my #2 grandson paint pics on the new one also..but a new , more serious, hunting theme. (see album for the one given to Marine).

We have been getting extra deer permits for years, but that is slowing a bit...coyotes are doing a number on fawns..time to hunt coyotes, I guess..
