youbetcha on that one....we have several tapes in the shop and have checked them out...there is good 1/8th+ difference in their ranges so we found a couple that are very close and marked them for general use...also keep in mind that movement/thickness of the end catch on the tape and how it affects your measurements...

Actually, Miriam, I'm fairly relaxed about the 1/8' now. My real worry nowis Pythagoras' dead nuts and wondering if everyone who builds Teardops and uses his formulas gets/finds/encounters these? I wish someone had told me about this before I statrted! <g>

I trace my difficulties to the fact that I started this thing in June and it is now August and my tape measure has been expanding for two months, so it is no wonder I am an 1/8 inch off. So, if I keep going until October the tape should shrink and everything will pretty much even out <g>

if you can't see it from an airplane, it doesn't matter.

just remember measure with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, then cut it with an axe. it'll fit, no problem :D

really, if you check any home, you will never find ant really square corners. your plywood is never has square corners. that stuff can be out plus or minus an 1/8" to 3/16" on the diagonal measurements depending on the product.

 :rofl2: I was going to say.....Well maybe not.
You can bet most get the problem because wood expands and contracts. Just ask my wood floors.

My tape is stretched out due to my jerking on it. But I counter that with the knowledge that only I will know. :worship:

Truthfully when I put both sides together and sanded the ends they fit perfect. I am so good  :lips:

Rasp and Miriam and all,

Thanks for that about the wood not being square when we buy it...I thought I was losing my mind when I checked several pieces of ply and found that they were not truly square. I think I will go take my librium now...between expanding tapes, swelling wood and dead nuts theories, and the day seems off to a shaky start <g>

Also make sure the hook at the end of your tape is free to move. I had a blob of glue freeze my up once while making a set of drawers and I almost went insane trying to get a 2' 1/16" drawer fit into a 1' 15/16" hole because the tape was telling me both were 2' wide
Commandant Louis Joseph Lahure has a singular distinction in military history - he defeated a navy on horseback. Occupying Holland in January 1795, the French continental army learned that the mighty Dutch navy had been frozen into the ice around Texel Island. So Lahure and 128 men simply rode up to it and demanded surrender. No shots were fired.
