roof on the canoe carrier

I did not tink it was ever going to get this far. I also got the doors hung in the rear.....now I am trying to figure out how to latch them.....

The local stores are not helping with their selection of hardware.

Any Ideas on how to make the door stay closed?

Well Mosportsman,
I have sandwich construction so I am looking at normal door knobs. If my walls were thinner I would think about a latch and handle like my sliding glass doors or the storm door.

Madjack has a neat door handle if you don't want something sticking out. If I was going to take mine off road at all I would use it.

Did you build the canoe in the pics ? If so which plan did you use ? I'm looking to build a paddler as soon as I'm done my trailer.

Yes, I built the pirogue in the photos. It is a self modification of Uncle John's Pirogue plans. I made mine wider and made a flat back on it. I also did not see the need for so many ribs, so I just have one.

The trailer will be painted to match the pirogue's back ground color, I won't do camo on the trailer.

Got the glass on the top last night. I made temporary fix to the door latch problem that works real well for now. I used simple sliding door bolts...the kind for interior of doors. I put one on top and bottom of left door and one on the middle of the left door. They will at least let me get down the road, but don't lock and they are not too eligant.

I post a photo of the glass job tonight.

next is front doors....got the windows but it will be quite a job no matter.

Here is one angle. I decided to just glass the front and top. I will just paint the sides with epoxy and paint.

Sorry I'm not much help tonight as far as answering your original question. I just wanted to say that you've got a nice looking pirogue there. It will look right at home with your trailer.

I'm currently in the process of building a mouse boat to top off our teardrop. After that I told the boys that I would tackle helping them build their own Kidyaks.

Camping + splashing + family = memories. That's what I hope any how.

Yea, I get into the splashing. I have owned something to float on since i turned 16 and never looked back. This project is a very complex boat trailer. The whole point of this rig is to pop away quick and maybe for only one night with minimal set up and tear down time usually associated with camping with tents. When the whole family goes we will still have to set a tent but we will be able to keep it loaded for going and won't have to do much unpacking when we get home.

Thanks for the compliments, I know I will build more boats but I think this camper may be the last.......but I don't know if it will ever be done. I see refinements down the road untill at least this time next year.
