Naitivity Scene

Postby dahoon » Sun Aug 20, 2006 11:42 pm

I figured with all the wood workers here someone would know where I could find a pattern to build a full size outdoors naitivity scene.

We want to make the figures upwards of 9 feet tall. With the full manger scene and all. Our church is on a secondary highway and we want to put up a naitivity scene.

So what better place to start with then with a bunch of sawdust eating trailer builders.

Thanks,

Mike

The cutting looks easy--but that painting looks like it takes some real skill. Do you print stencils/guides from the plans, and paint from that?

Looks like they are prepainted images that are glued/poly'd onto the wood cutouts................................. 8)

MANY years ago, more than I want to admit to, my Dad made a Nativity scene of plywood figurines that he had cut out and painted. The first year there was only Mary, Joseph and Jesus. Every year he added a few more figures. He also mad a stable of split cedar.

He did it from plans that he transfered to the plywood with carbon paper. Although the painting was time consuming, it wasn't bad. My brother still has the set. Looks good after all these years.

Thanks for the info, thats the best plans so far.

The how to build is no problem. It's the layouts I'm having problem with.

I think I'm going to find paper figures then transfer them to the plywood with an overhgead projector.

If you come up with a better idea let me know.

Mike

p.s.-I sold a utility trailer so now I'm flush with money and as soon as I can make my pictures smaller I'll post my avatar and progress pics.
