The Roadtripper is Under Construction UPDATE

Postby roadtrippin » Mon Jul 10, 2006 4:47 pm

Hi folks,
after a long absence, I am happy to say that we are well under way with construction of our first teardrop, the Roadtripper. My wife has blogged the details here and you can see her flickr stream here. There are actually 3 pages on the blog related to construction that you can access via the right nav bar.

She finally got to a point where a) it looks like a trailer and b) I can actually start helping with it. I'm so excited. We're hoping to spend our anniversary in it (late may).

...really good to see y'all back...had wondered for some time what had hapened to y'all and the build 'cause it was quite an interesting concept...looks like the real deal is going to be every bit as interesting if not more...truly inspiring techniques on the framing, keep it up and keep us informed on the progress...

Looks great, keep it up! :applause: Actually your pics look kind of familiar you're doing it like I did it. There you go Heikki, another one who is building the body first.

BTW: that's a huge roundover bit, a big chunk of iron you're swinging.

My compliments to you - that's a really impressive display of thinking ahead with all the work done the table before assembling the body.

The radiused edge to the body looks stunning too - well worth the extra effort.

We got some skinning done this weekend. We were very fortunate to get to HD right after they loaded a fresh pallet of skins so we had the pick of the litter. We found some beautiful bookmatched birch. One set was so gorgeous we were having a hard time deciding which side to go with because the back had a beautiful fiddleback design to the grain.

Anyway, the full flickr stream is here.

Here's a few of the better pics to show the outrageously gorgeous wood grain.

WOW!!!! Very Nice! I love the front window, that will really give you an open feeling. Those exterior skins are great!

That is a really pretty teardrop. I am not sure how you got the frame/trim to bend but I love it.

Very impressive design! Not being a teardrop owner (yet), I've wondered about the feeling of claustrophobia...but, not in your tear. The window in front and moonroof on top looks super!!! I reviewed your blog and was impressed on how you listed your likes/dislikes prior to drawing up a plan. Great work!!!

Holy cow! What an impressive design and incredible workmanship! All that curved wood and laminating would drive me nuts in a hurry! I'm eager to see this one finished!
