I hope they're prepared for the toxic gas attacks coming from Uranus!

I agree about the grandfather thing.

I will not digress about scientists overly concerned about size.
There be danger there.

Or they could just change the name a bit, Plutini or Plu-tiny.. ;)

Give ‘em a break will ya, they’re astronomers, not rocket scientists.

I know I'm a teacher but...

Postby stbuch » Sat Aug 26, 2006 6:29 pm

I know I'm a teacher but I'm far too old to relearn the order of planets, besides which I'm an English teacher so I just can't be relearning science at this late date... :grouch day1:

I guess this was a good year to retire from teaching. I don't have to unlearn the students, nor do I have to remove Pluto from the solar system models. Last year my class was rather excited that there might be a tenth planet.

If Pluto isn't a planet anymore guess I'll scratch that from my list of places to visit with the teardrop. At least it will go to the bottom of the list. Image

Hey, this is really a BIG deal in my house!

My 10-year-old is into astronomy big time, so much so that when he asks me a question about the subject, I lovingly look at him and respond"

"Duhhhhh?????"

But I think it's cool for him to see things that are "redefined," "reexplored," "relearned" and "rethought."

In other words, he's just learned that just because something has been on paper for so long in the past as true, that doesn't necssarily make it REALLY true, and he should use his own brain and come to his own conclusions at times.
Here we go again!
