Aluminum Tear Interiors ?

Postby ALAN GEDDES » Mon Aug 28, 2006 10:12 pm

I have only seen 3 all aluminum tears and none had finished interiors. Were they origionally insulated or paneled ? Am contemplating a scratch built one at home with a pop riveted construction.

Alan, Hello from Idaho. The Tourette had no insulation at all and the only wood was a closet door at the front, a small door on a shelf near your feet and a small cupboard door in the galley. They also had a plywood floor covered in linoleum and some small frames holding screens over the inside of the window openings. And no windows, just a metal flap that sorta sealed on the screen frame. That's it. The rest is just aluminum skin on an aluminum framework all riveted together.

Incidently, the no insulation thing is a real problem in the hot sun or cold nights. When you touch it it can be quite the experience. Everything from third degree burns to frozen skin cells.
