In doing this, don't type the asterisks in what follows. I put them in to disable the quote function.

Type [quote*] at the beginning of what you want in a quote, and [/quote*] at the end. Simple!

If you want to get fancy, you indicate who said what with [quote="username"] (quotation marks are needed) at the beginning of the quote instead of [quote] but I tend to do that only at the beginning of a post.

The hard part for me is typing the brackets "[]" - I oftentimes do it with the shift key so I get "{}" which doesn't work.

But the best recommendation I can offer if you have a problem with it is to use the preview button to see what your message looks like. Then you can fix any boo-boos that aren't obvious in the typing screen.

Glad to help. The quote button on a highlighted section of text works too, but I find when I'm typing it's easier for me to do it this way. But then, I'm actually a ten-fingered typist - one of the few things I learned in high school that I actually USE!

They didn't give keyboarding when I was in school. Didn't exist. I do type with 10 fingers, they just don't always do what they are supposed to do.

We didn't have it either, but we did have typewriters. Remember those? I don't remember if they were electric or manual, but I think they were manual. I know I used a manual all through college. I may even still have it around somewhere, though God only knows where I could find a ribbon. Probably have to have the one in it re-inked if I wanted to take it out and play with it...

I actually have a manual under the bed. Have an extra ribbon too. I didn't want to run out on a holiday weekend with papers to type.

Truth is my children were all in school before I went to college so I took typing to facilitate the mass of paper writing and learned keyboarding at the same time.
