Postby stjohn » Mon Sep 04, 2006 2:06 pm

My wife's aunt gave this a few years ago Ihave made them at home alot
but thought anyone with a coleman or hill oven might enjoy them
It sounded strange to me until I tried it but anyway here goes

1 cup self rising flour
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup mayonaise(not salad dressing)

mix it all together pour into a greased muffin tin(I like to use real butter to grease it with) bake at 400. for 15 min
so simple even I can make them :D

Sounds Strange? Heck no. I grew up on a Mayonaise Cake and loved it. Sounds nasty, but in reality it was a chocalate cake. Very moist.

I wonder if that recipe is still around? 8)

The Mayo cake sounded interesting so I did a search for it. Here it is:

Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake.

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup white sugar
2 cups alpurpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1 cup mayonaise
1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
(The above is for a single recipe. I usually double it and then bake it
in a bundt pan.)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease and flour a budnt pan.
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder.
Add mayonaise, vanilla, and water.
Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for approximately 3 - 4 minutes.
Bake in preheated oven until toothpick comes out clean.
Allow cake to cool for 10 minutes, and then remove from pan onto a wire
rack to cool completely.
Enjoy.

NOTE: This cake batter seems like it is almost too thick, but trust me
it turns out beautifully.

I;m gonna try this with Splenda

Ira,
At prompting from others, my kid, TDN and I are gonna take a whirl at competition cooking in a few weeks and those that have prompted us to do this have suggested we enter the BLT pizza in the "People's Choice" category.
If it wins, I don't see how you'll be able to heckle me any longer about this matter.
I'll let you know how things shake out...
JFYI- I have reservations about doing this...
As a photographer, I entered two photo contests in all.
One was a local contest, which I thought I'd win hands down... Didn't even get an honorable mention.
The other one was an international contest.
I entered the same photograph and sent it off... Expecting to never hear another word about entering the contest.
About three months later, I got a certified letter... I won the contest. :?

Like I say, my boy and I are gonna give it a whirl with the dutch ovens and see what happens. He is all gitty about it and thinks we are gonna take the cake... I've told him to expect nothing and just have fun.
I don't want him to end up dissapointed and as for myself, with this OCD I have... It's almost like playing with dynamite. :o

Have a Great Day and may your dreams of slumber be filled with MAYO...

Dean-o,

As one who views mayo on pizza as fundamentally just plain wrong, I do wish you and your boy luck in the contest. Maybe if you win, I'll give it a try, even though I am a lifelong mayo hater. My grandma made me eat warm homemade mayo sandwiches when I was a toddler.

Ya know, whether mayo on pizza is right or wrong, every time Dean has made his BLT pizza at a TD gathering it has never failed to disappear in the first 5 minutes it was out of the dutch oven. All I can say to all you nay sayers, don't knock it until you try it....... ;) 8)

Mayo Madness

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Fri Sep 22, 2006 5:57 pm

8) What Kevin said about the pizza being gone in nothing flat has been true....and I have a strong dislike for mayo myself. I enjoy the pizzas he has made, but the BLT with mayo does not appeal to me at all. He's tried to accomodate his daughter and I by baking one half and then leaving the mayo, lettuce and tomato off it. (I'm actually more repulsed by the warm lettuce/tomato combo than the mayo factor) I'd like him to do a 50/50 for the competition (part BLT & part sausage/mushroom/bacon) and call it

the Half-a-Heart Attack Special .
East or west, which mayo is the best?

Silly Girl... The BLT pizza is topped with chilled lettuce and chilled tomato after it has been baked. :R
