Stowed for the Winter - So Sad

Postby campadk » Sun Nov 14, 2004 12:19 pm

(sung to the tune of Kingston Town)...

Image
"Sad to say, our tear is on the way.
Hope to take her out, in many a day"

"My hatch is down, my hitch turned around,
I had to leave a little tear in Storage Town"

Yesterday we cleaned out, cleaned up and parked our Snoozer for yet another season. Even put some light oil on parts that might corrode.

Here in our 'babies' house. I remove one board in the end of the shed, then pull out 4 bolts to allow us to remove the whole side...

Image

Panel removed, really to park the canoe and Snoozer...

Image

Baby inside... poor thing... don't worry, I'll put you up on blocks as soon as I can find them!?

Image

Kate and I say goodnight to our baby... see you in the spring!

Jo and I where talking about that the other night. We recently buaght 8 snowmobiles from yellowstone national park. They are huge. A few have balls on them so I got an idea. Get to gether with my Grandpa and build some BIG skies to go under my wheels and bolt onto the frame. Hook up to the snowmobile and go winter camping! bye

I don't know how you Canadians tolerate that white stuff. :D

Our first teardrop trip is planned for the middle of December.
We're also planning our first trip to New England and Canada this July.

We have winter for variety. Winter is for skiing, skating or general sliding and slipping on snow. It also makes fireplaces and hot tubs more enjoyable.

Oh yah... some people like snowmobiliing!

PS. Variety is the spice of life... yeah winter!

Winter is for avoiding. Once I retire, the first snowflake that hits me will be God's fault, the second will be mine! 8)

Growing up on SoCal spoiled me. If you wanted winter snow, you drove to the mountains. If not, you drove to the beach or the desert. I'd move back if it weren't for their confiscatory taxes. Oh - like I'm going to get any sympathy from Canadians!

In Illinois we get a good winter, not to bad. Today it is suppose to snow here! Yeah, cant wait to get out my snow bord and go to dead mans hill, then ride the snow mobile back up with my mom, lol. I love snow, I just hate ice. And one other thing is Canada rocks for winter sports! bye

winter hopes

Postby RAYVILLIAN » Wed Nov 24, 2004 10:07 am

I cleaned out the garage enough to get Little Guy in yesterday just in time for a 4 inch snow. Darn We are hopeing to get one more trip south into Arkansas right after Thanksgiving. But the poor 2 wheel drive Ranger doesn't like this stuff and I don't think I can aford to pull very far with the 3/4 ton 4 wheeler. But not all is lost it is sapose ta warm up tomorrow and if it melts enough to get the tear out of the drive way we're heading south. Just wish I didn't have to come back before spring.

I am reluctant to cover the whole tear, but would like to cover the doors. I'm thinking about taking 2 6x8 silver tarps and making a 6x16 out of it (it would go over the top, covering the roof vent as well, another thing I'd like to protect from ice and snow).... That would be enough to cover what I want and still alow it to breathe... we are getting close to snow season here and want to keep snow and ice out of the door jamb....

We are having a major snow storm now, internet keeps going out  . It is very cold and we got like 4 inches in 2 hours and it started at 12 central. It is 6 now and still comming. I dont really want to go out. I have had my fair share of knocking snow off of our large pines. bye

Winter storage idea

Postby RAYVILLIAN » Wed Nov 24, 2004 9:26 pm

I use to have a temporary green house on the back of my garage that was 10 by 10 foot. It was made of a 2x6 base nailed to 4x4s driven in the ground. this had a grid made of plastic electrical conduit and plumbing t's fastened to the garage and base with conduit hangers. I streched green house plastic over this and fastened it down with lath. It lasted 2 yrs this way and only got taken down to build a larger more permanent one. Seems that some thing like this useing a trap instead of clear plastic might work for teardrop winter sorage. The one I built cost me about $80 and $60 of that was for the green house plastic. the rest was the conduit and fittings the lumber I has laying around. Anyway here's a picture in my gallery. Sorry it's not to good it is a picture of a picture.

Here on the west (wet) coast, we just get rain, more rain and even more rain. Things soon turn green and mossy. The tear is going to be moved under the carport very soon. I have been delaying because I hate defogging the van every morning. If I squish it up tight, angle it just so, I just might be able to get the front of the van in too. We get too much wind here in the winter to put up a portable shelter.

It is 11 here now and still snowing. Almost 12 hours now. The winds are at 40 miles an hour. The nice thing is we have alot of garage space, 5 stalls to be exact. 2 stalls are in a detached garage in the back yard and 3 hooked to the house. I planed on building the tear in the back but the front garage is heated when needed so it looks as if I will be up front. Not as private or as easy to clean being so large but o well, space is space. bye
