What the Font?

Postby TRAIL-OF-TEARS » Wed Sep 13, 2006 10:52 am

Ok everyone I am wanting to put some vinyl letters on my tear but I would like to use the same font that is used on the emblem from Cars the movie. The same type of font used on 50's era autos. The only font I could find that is close is called Americana Dreams. Also retroteardrops.com uses a similar font. Thanks for the help.

My guess is that it was done in Illustrator.

I have a vast library of fonts, but that's gonna be a tough one. Plus, are you on a Mac or PC?

You want like this one?

Ahhh, that's the problem. I just IM'd my friend in Nashville with the link, so we'll see what he comes up with.

My guess is that this is a custom font, done in the old days, for a real car company and owned by them--and that it didn't necessarily port over to the computer world. I bet you it also has a "car" name.

If we find something (we're both Mac), and you tell us what you want to do, and how you want to do it, we can get it done for you and convert to a graphics file.

Ira, thanks I just want it to say Cruise-Inn or Cruise Inn. Just the text not the whole emblem. I'm gonna use that for the next tear, that will be a Radiator Springs Styled tear- Maroon with the white on the sides.

Victor I will look into that one thanks.

I found squat, but if you can use what Rocky sent you, it's easy to give it that metallic look.

Check out the websire dafont.com. That's where I found the retro font used for the name "Schmoopie." (See my album for that one . . . ) If it's not on that website, it probably doesn't exist - and you can download for free.

That RocketScript isn't the same font, but I like that site.

Free, and they have Mac too.

I found something in the Retro section of the DaFont site, HoodOrnament, that's similar--but not really the same.

I had lots of fonts until I lost a hard drive.

From memory "belair" and "magneto Bold" were similar to what you are after.

Try http://cooltext.com/Fonts-Retro "LakeshoreDrive" or "SuperHighway".

Ira that site has lots of fonts. So far I have found a few that are close; Air Conditioner, Hood Ornament, Uppen Arms NF, and a bold version called Lakeshore Drive. I have looked at 20 pages out of about 30 pages of retro fonts.

I had to work a trade show yesterday afternoon, the guy in the booth next to ours was a sign guy so I hit him up for some info too we will see how this all works out.

Again thanks to all for your help.
