But I'm about as liberal as they come I have a Hybrid, a soy oil car, a compost pile, a rainbow background, and have been called the "earthy guy" in my office. and yet I still don't comment on the topic....because I have lost friends on this argument and I like all of you too much to go there but to quote two smarmy bumper stickers......

OK... Maybe I took a swike or two at the Administration, (Not the board, the country) but I surely didn't want to start any fights... Especially between friends.

I do have concerns where this country is at, where it's going and where it's gonna wind up.
I salute all who have answered the call of duty, but I don't agree with the one's calling the shots.
I'm gonna keep a keen eye on what's going to take place next in the Middle East, I just hope this country is under different leadership when the next major developement happens over there, but I have my doubts... 'cause things are starting to pick up the pace.

War may be good for some, but here in the South we seem to send an awful lot of our young guys and gals off to war. It's not so good for us. Personally I hope people are outraged by all that has happened so that they might actually start voting.

Seems to me we've caught hundreds of dangerous assholes, but then, since you tend to stick to the Democrat Talking Points, I assume you mean Bin Laden. So tell me – are you saying that everything is going to be bright and rosy once he’s caught or killed? The fact is, he is no longer dangerous – his last recording was the sound of a man trying to regain relevance in a fight that he no longer has a deciding role in. Nonetheless, the Democrats have promised to get him. I’d kinda like to know how, but more importantly, I’d like to know why. It’s fourth down and goal to go and they want to send the whole team to tackle a quarterback who’s sitting on the bench. Yeah, that makes sense.

It's not even a Democrat-Republican thing anymore either, because this administration is SO bad that a majority of Republicans don't support this dope either.

I can’t say “we” because I’m no longer a Republican and there are many things in which I do not support him. However, I DO support him in the war for the basic reason that these people intend to destroy us. They have said so repeatedly and they’re willing to strap bombs to their kids to do it, so I believe them. (Golda Meir had it right – “There will be peace when they love their children more than they hate us.”) The ultimate goal of the states that back them such as Iran and Syria is to restore the Ottoman Empire in the middle-east and eastern Euorpe, and the Caliphates in western Europe. Again, they have said so. And I for one am not so naïve to think that if they achieve that end they will stop there. Their ultimate goal is world Islam and they will not stop until they achieve that goal or they are dead. Monty, I’ll take door #2.

So stick your head in the sand and pretend that if we’re nice to them they’ll go away and stop hating us if you wish. But they’ve been attacking this country for twenty-five years and I for one am glad President Bush had the cojones to finally take the fight to them.

This may be slightly off-topic on this off-topic thread, but simutaneously with exploring alternative fuels, shouldn't we be constructing more refineries here in the good ole' U.S. of A.? It's not the fuel that's expensive as much as it is relying on others to refine it, and the delay that is inherent in having someone else do it. On another note, have y'all noticed how angry Americans are - seemingly for no good reason - as they go about their daily business in what is purportedly the "greatest nation on Earth."?

I agree with this a lot:

I don't know if it's STILL the case, but when my wife lived in Venezuela, they had the same policy--that you had to vote.

Now, this might be a wrong assumption, but I'll make it anyway:

I think the vast majority of Australians are a heck of a lot more informed than the vast majority of Venezuelans, mostly poor. And looking at what's gone on in Venezuela in the past, this policy seems more of a way to manipulate elections than to educate a constituency or promote civic involvement.

For example, over the last few years, Chavez has thrown block parties in poor barrios, giving them food and drink, and then bussing them to the polls.

So if you HAVE to vote and you don't know one candidate from the other, you're going to go with the guy who gave you that bottle of rum.
