A friend fo mine is going to Victoria Island/Vancouver Island in July. He mentioned one or the other or both, but I remember he said that he has to take a ferry across, and that there's some huge "flower" thing over there, some kind of gardens.

What's the skinny on taking a trip there? Do they allow Jews in?

Also, even though he's married with kids, remember that he's a friend of mine--so information on topless bars would not be rejected.

The flower place is most likely Butchart Gardens. that place is really nice.
Remember it will be cool there in July, if they are there on the 1st of July that is Canada Day they have a really cool fireworks show over the bay.
The wife and I had our Honeymoon there in 1997. We spent the 1st in Canada and The 4th in Levenworth (no it is not a prison) Washington.

Edit: Cool meaning 50's at night and 70's in the day.

I've been out to the island once. My wife was born near Victoria.
Buchart gardens is for sure the most known garden in the area.
I hear a lot about Beacon Hill Park as well.

The whole "Vancouver" thing can be a little bit confusing since there are two places with that name. A large city on the mainland is named "Vancouver", and then the island off the west coast named "Vancouver Island". Victoria is a city on Vancouver Island.

Ira, Vancouver Island is a great place to visit. I would suggest that your friend also travel up the island some to Nanaimo and then across to Tofino. There are some great places to see along the way. Victoria is like a British city in nature and the inner harbor is a must see. Hope that helps.

Ask him to get you a bottle of Canadian whiskey called "Forty Creek." I buy one whenever I'm in Victoria, which is as often as I can. This stuff is flat out yummy.

The only problem with Victoria is that they dump all their raw sewage into the ocean under the theory that the ocean will somehow "cleanse itself." Lately a guy dressed in a brown, foam-rubber turd suit, carrying a plunger, has been showing up to government meetings to try to bring some attention and shame to this issue. His name is "Mr. Floatie" and I think I will bring this post to an end before somebody's mental eyeballs go blind thinking about it.

My experience is that the Canadians have the best campgrounds that I have ever seen!!! Always friendly, well kept and in spectacular places...

My dream trip would be to pull a Tear to Vancouver, stay a week, and see some of the 2010 Winter Olympics!!! Make a great Tear Roundup.

Brrrrrr : Ya know it will be a little cool for camping!

When I was a kid my parents used to take me up to Whistler Mountain for skiing. We used to camp in our truck camper at the dump and take a shuttle bus to the ski lift. The last run of the day we could ski right down to our camper. Oh ya, the dump is now called Whistler Village!
