9/11 Remembered

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Classic Finn » Tue Sep 12, 2006 12:50 pm

I was onboard ship (Duty) that day on 911... Woke up to the news and also wondering as to all engines were stopped in the middle of the Sea.

Then I heard the Captains voice on the intercom.. Ladies and Gentleman
this is you Captain Speaking.. We have stopped all engines onboard ship
for a 1 Minute Silence in Prayer...Due to ...........

And after that resuming the Voyage... I can remember that as if it was yesterday...So Sad.... All Passengers went quiet and were that way for the rest of the Voyage... And So was the entire Crew..

We flew our flag here in remembrance of 911 and to all of you back in the States - Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Joseph and Ira,
I suspect it depends somewhat on your definition of inclement.

Where I live, it isn't the rain that destroys flags.
Sun fades them and winds literally whip them to shreds.

As a vet it makes me angry to see these SUV drivers with faded rags "flying" on their antennas; and around January of '02 the barrow ditches in the whole Panhandle were literally carpeted with broken-off-plastic stemmed "antenna flags" abandoned like so much tossed litter.

Pay a little attention to what the flag stands for.
Have a little pride in how you display it.
Otherwise don't bother.

FYI.

There's a Navy ship being built in Lousianna right now and a large percentage of that ship's metal has been recycled from the metal in the Twin Towers.

The name of the ship is the USS New York .............! It should get commissioned in 2007.

It would be poetic justice some day if the middle east gets so far out of hand to send in the USS New York and assist the terrorist in meeting Allah!

In-Coming................!

The link worked fine, but everywhere the word "New York" was supposed to appear in relation to the ship, I got those three letters instead.

Ira -- happens in Windows sometimes. Do you have malware and virus checkers? If so, now's a good time to run 'em. If not, now's a good time to get some.

Madjack,
I'm ashamed of myself. I spent three nights in New Orleans in July 2004 and saw a couple of honkin' big USNavy ships moored (what I thought was upriver) about, oh, a mile from the Rivercenter park/mall. They left sans fanfare on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I didn't realize NO had a shipyard for the USN.

Apple. What is malware? System diagnostic stuff? Yeah, I use TechTool Pro. Norton for the Mac bit the dust.

malware is malicious code.
spybots and so on.
If you're on a mac they're not as plentiful but they do exist.
