Computer Question

Hey there folks and Greetings..

I have a quick question concerning a program.. We received a CD with photogrsaphs that are in TIF Format.. What program can I use to open the files? Im not familiar with the above format..

.tif is what we use here at work.

If you open with Paint or Microsoft Office Picture Manager , it may open but the colors will be distorted terribly.

I tried to "open with" several different things but not sure what you could use. Here at work, it opens with "Kodak Imaging for Windows"

Might have to ask the person/place who sent you the cd.

.TIF is a lossless image format.
Any photo viewer should be able to open a .TIF format file.

Microsoft photo editor will open those files. (comes with Windoze XP)

Heikki, anytime I can, I save files in the .TIFF format, especially anything that I scan or want to archive...it is a lossless format unlike .jpeg and should open in almost any photo viewer/editor program...remember that anytime you open and then RESAVE a .jpeg that quality is lost......

Yeah Photoshop is the bomb but if you just need a viewer there are lots of choices.

Corel just bought them and the new version is Paintshop Pro X

Also, since TIFF is lossless, the files can be VERY large.

You can fill up a Hard Drive in no time with TIFFs

I'm cheaper. Since I use Linux at home instead of Windows, I've been using The Gimp as my graphics editor. It has most of the functionality of Photoshop or PSP, and it's free. It can be used with just about any graphics format and you can use it to convert from one format to another.
