12' X 14' screen?

12' X 14' screen?

Postby sjptak » Tue Sep 26, 2006 5:46 pm

This is probably about as off topic as it can get. I've googled, googled again and then regoogled and can't find what I want. Anyone know where I can buy an 18/14 mesh 12' X 14' piece of fibreglass insect screen? Best I could come up with is all the Chinese manufactures that will sell to retailers. Someone here in the states should be able to get me a pice of screening......

Thanks.

Is this different from the screen that they sell at Lowe's and Home Depot?

It's like tent screen. When I hunt and the skeeters are bad I'll cover my deer blind with it.

It's pretty much the same stuff at HD and lowes with the exception of size. The 18/14 mesh is a common pattern. 12' X 14' is where I'm having a problem. I'm looking to cover up an ornamental pond with the screen being supported by a PVC frame. I suppose I could get 4' X 50' if I could find it, and then mount the screen on each pole. I was hoping to only mount it on the two outermost poles making it easy to roll up for storage.

I could also use bird netting for fruit trees, but the pond is located close to a white ash, which drops seeds in the spring that would fall right through the bird netting.

My quest continues......I will check with the local fabric shops later this week.

You know, come to think of it, they had camo colored mesh screen at a fabric ship I was in one time. Usually 54" wide though.

Camo would work. I'm not at all fussy about the color. Like I said, I could do with 4'. I'd just prefer the full nut,

Ken,
I looked at that stuff in a local pond place. Although the size is perfect, the 3/8 openings are too large. The little seed things that fall from the ash tree would easily make it through.

MadJack,
Looks like a 5' width X 10 yds long is going to be my best bet. There were a couple sites I found that had larger but they were pricey cause they were "garage door screens". I guess they fancied up the edges a bit.

Bledsoe,
Ya think some lil ol quiting lady has a 12'X14' piece in her stash?.

Thanks guys. I may settle on the 5' piece.

Stan, I didn't think of this earlier...around here, we have a big greenhouse/nursery industry and they cover their greenhouses with what is known as "shade cloth", a woven FG screen in various weaves...so a greenhouse supply place may be a good source...

MadJack,

That was it. I was able to find a retailer on the weband and I could buy 137" Wide by the linear foot. It'll be about $100, but worth it to me.

Thanks
