regional fuel cost fluxuations

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby cracker39 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 8:04 am

A lot of the price fluctuation probably has to do with state/county taxes. I've been told that some of it is due to delivery costs (is that why it is cheaper in TX and OK?).

The FL Attorney General web site states "Federal excise taxes are 18.4 cents per gallon. The State of Florida also levies 14.1 cents per gallon in Motor Fuel Taxes. Local governments levy anywhere from 9.6 cents per gallon in Franklin and Okaloosa Counties to 17.5 cents in several counties, creating a range of 42.1 cents in total fuel taxes and inspection fees to 52.29 cents." My county is one of those with a tax of 17.5.

After a little more research, I found this site with state taxes on fuel listed. It doesn't include any county or sales taxes and is nearly a year old.

http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp

This article on states that have already, or may in the future, reduce gas taxes, includes another list by state for total tax burden. Looking at Florida's, it is an average and does include the county taxes. This list doesn't state if it includes state sales taxes.

So far, the best I've seen $2.15 at Albertson's. It's finally dropping enough to make a "Market Correction". Now we are getting lower than my parents in FL. At this rate, I hope we see it under $2.00 in the next couple weeks. But I'm not holding my breath, remember when we thought $2.00 was crazy high? Now we think it's cheap.

Not only are Caifornia gas prices high (taxes and special formulas). Some places are worse than others, like where I live it has dropped down to $2.95 a gallon
Though there is one place that knocks 10 cents off on Sundays.
2 weeks ago the San Diego county area prices had already dropped that low and we came home to over $3 a gallon.
So everyone with cheaper gas, enjoy it! Martha

I filled up the wife's car a few days ago for $2.209. At the rate it's been dropping, it may be down another 10¢ or more by now. But, by the time I go to Anastasia in Nov, it will probably be back to $3...just my luck. When it's down, I don't have anywhere to drive to take advantage of it.
