The Russians are coming - The Ru......

Postby alaska teardrop » Sat Sep 30, 2006 8:53 pm

:frightened: As some may have heard, 70 Russian bombers came over the Arctic and made a run on our coastline yesterday. They fired off 18 cruise missiles and NORAD sent up interceptors from Alaska & Canada. Not sure what they were aiming at, BUT the world turned 5 inches of white overnight! :snow

At least it keeps NORAD on it's toes. Maybe it was more of an excercise to see if they would be met by any resistance.

As I read the stories, the 70 bombers were involved in operations where "Russian commanders had announced an exercise in Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic regions Sept. 26-30 involving 70 bombers and the test-firing of 18 cruise missiles." Some of these planes were far away as off the coast of Japan and were spread over 5 days, not 70 planes heading for our coast. "American and Canadian fighter planes were launched to intercept a pair of Russian bombers after the bombers came close to Alaska while conducting an exercise" was reported in the news. Russian officials also stated that bombers would be firing missles on "practice ranges".

So far this is nothing that hasn't been going on for years....

Things are getting boring. Maybe we should shoot down one of their planes "by mistake" as they have done in the past.

Nah, maybe it's a bad idea.

what would their recourse be?

not manufacture something else? go on a work walkout? have a stiff drink?

sounds like the Grande Duchy of Fenwick needs to invade somewhere and be supported by foreign aid.

Back in the 70's & early 80's, when the cat & mouse game was more serious, my brother was flying Bristol Bay as a bush pilot. Every now & then he'd spot the Russians down low, right on the coast. He would radio the King Salmon base & our fighters would scramble up & chase them off. Kind of funny. 'Air Defence' by a single guy poking along in a 185 or a 206.
