Sometimes I love the internet...

I just got an amazing book today. I have been a fan of Verlin Kruger for many years. For those who may not know... He was the most daring and possibly obsessed kayak paddler that ever lived. I met him about 20 years ago when he and his new wife Vallerie passed by the Florida panhandle. He was 61 at the time and had already paddled over 100,000 miles. My first kayak was modeled after one of his.

Anyhoo... when my kayak was stolen about a week ago, I went searching on the web for a picture of it to give the cops. I happened to run across this book about him by Phil Peterson Sr. So I bought a copy... and he even signed & autographed it... Cool!

I haven't read it all yet, but wow... what a story it is. This guy absolutely lived his life to the fullest. I am once again inspired by one of the great ones I just happened to meet. ~ Brick





PS: I did get my kayak back! Azzhole is gonna do 5 years in one of Florida's nastier prisons...

I'm glad you did get your boat back. Thanks for posting this book. I remember when Vern came thru Hastings, Minnesota on one of his Mississippi River runs. I have always been amazed at how efficient those canoes look and seem to operate. Being a extremely novice canoeist, Northern Minnesota Boundary Waters and a few Minnesota and Wisconsin Rivers these longer trekking canoes might just be my next interest. Did you build your boat? and is it possible to build a boat similar to these? Anyway thanks for the info. my copy of the book is on the way. I told my wife it will be my xmas present this year.

Yep... The theif had a pretty bad history of crime and getting off easy... This time I think they got his attention.

Marty V... Yes, I did build my boat similar to his. Mine wasn't quite as high tech with Kevlar and all, but still a nice boat. It was my second build. The first was a crude little plywood kayak I built when I was a kid from plans in Popular Mechanics.
