Hi guy's,
I have been planning on building a bike trailer tent for a few months now.
Iv'e scoured the net for over 8 months looking at trailer designs - there aint many trailers I haven't seen
My idea was to have a plywood box shape trailer with a removable lid. 4 tent poles would then be set into each corner of the trailer, then the lid/roof would be replaced. Some kind of tarpaulin/tent material would then be unfurled from inside the roof down the sides of the trailer. An additional canopy-tented attached area would house my bike at night and also serve as a cooking area. The end result would look similar to a 4 poster bed?
The thing with building a bicycle trailer tent is keeping the WEIGHT down. You have to remember you'll be towing not just the trailer but all your camping gear - extra clothes - cooker - food - fishing gear/rods - sleeping bag/mat etc etc The list goes on
I have built a few proto type trailers each a little better than the last. The troubles I ran into were use of poor materials? Wood - weak Angle Iron.
About a month ago a sourced out some box tubing - (this also maybe to heavy?) and got a mate to weld up a basic frame. I still have to source out a couple of cross beams but here's how its looking so far...
Something like this but for a bicycle would be good...

As already mentioned weight is the problem with bike trailers, I may end up having to go along the lines of something like this?
