I think I'll post all my mistakes at the end of my build. But in the meantime I'm going with my new philosophy: If it looks good it is good.

I spent the bulk of my summer working on converting the former living-room of our house into a bed room. Since our house was built around 1885 - that meant a lot of hacking through plaster walls, trying to install new doors and walls into walls that are only sorta flat and corners that are only sorta square...

I don't sweat 1" worth of error...

Experience is the practical application of one's own mistakes.

You now have a little more experience than you did before.

ummm...in cases like this, where a shim will not work, I invoke rule2: make the light and anything else off center too...conistent mistakes look like you know what you are doing <g>

I'm not sure if my rule will apply here.
( Caulk it) so I'll go with my dads saying.

In the shipyards here, the saying is:

"Near enough for pit work."

Though quite why coal miners would have such a low standard of accuracy, I don't know.

I once mounted a trailer hitch on my old minivan, using channels in the bottom of the floor as my guide... turns out they were not symetrical.... the trailer hitch (home made) was 3 inches off center...

It was 3" off center when I gave the van to my brother 4 years later. AFter a couple of weeks, it all becomes history......

In reality, there is no reason why a fan has to be in the center.....

When I mess up, unless it is critical, I follow Shirley's advice. Wait one week and see if it still matters..... So many things don't.
