On the contests, how about a contest for best vanity plate. That's the only catagory that I even have a chance.

From the looks of the participants, we could have a water race. No one else has to worry about the humiliation of being last, I will have that position spotted.

We could have a contest for the best Teardrop Camp Song. The composers need time to create these masterpieces if that one's on the agenda.

I agree you have a lock on the vanity plate ,but don't be to sure about the water race. You see my wife is a paddle to the middle of the lake ,and drift type paddler. We have a tandem,and if you wanted ,you can be my bow paddler for a race. You only need a 2 minutes of instruction,and I do the rest. Two paddlers have more endurance,because we don't work as hard. They may take us at the start,but we will take them later in the race. Seriously, anybody that wants to try a paddle is welcome to use our tandem. It is very stable,easy to handle,and has plenty of room. On the other hand my other kayak is a known water splitter,and I may gather that prize.

No, not quite. It's a QCC 700 ,not THE fastest,but right up there in speed. It's not a surf ski,but a medium volume sea kayak. 18'X21" plumb bow . http://www.qcckayaks.com/kayaks/model.asp?model=q700x

Do you have an Outer Island, Dean? Never seen one in person yet,just on web pages.

I just don't have the time to build something like that. There is a CLC kit of similar design,that is supposed fast too.

I still think I have a decent chance. I can cruise in the 700 at 5.6-5.8 mph,and 1/4 mile sprint at 7.4 mph {gps verified} I have gone 8.4 but only for several yards. I had to get my own GPS because all the guys I paddle with, can't keep up to clock me.

Haven't GPSed the tandem yet ,but guessing 5.5 mph tops.

I think there will be a couple of CLC boats at the Adiondacks,which I am looking forward to paddling with.

1. Close Deal on Firestation
2. Finish Redbird Canoe
3. Build Teardrop Trailer
4. Build Outer Island Kayak

No worry on the water race. We might have a canoe, but I am maybe going to have a runabout by then also... so I'll swamp any of your kayakers trying to out run my wife paddling solo! <insert small cool emicon here>

Hope you two know there is a speed limit on 'the pond'... hate to see you get the first speeding ticket of the season now.... :-)

You can't swamp an Outer Island or any skirted kayak for that matter...
Well, unless you decide to cut it in half with the Runabout. Just be sure to ram me on the aft part of the boat, OK?
(The Outer Island is the easiest kayak there is to Eskimo role)

Do you know what power boaters call kayaks,don't you? {speed bumps} Don't worry us kayakers have ways to deal with jetskiers,and power boaters.

When I use my greenland paddle it will look like a hellicopter flying sideways

All kidding aside ,are we setting up a water event ? Slalom,backwards race,blind paddler wife directs,women only,just to name a few. They all can be a barrel of laughs.

I also have a "water-splitter" A 17'-6" Guillemot, 21" beam, a real cruiser, unless there's a following sea, then a little hard to keep on track.
You'll love the area for paddling. I have a book that lists some nice day-trips for canoe/kayak. Maybe we can organize an excursion??

We'll definately have to have some water type contests. Tie them all together and water ski behind them.... make a teardrop shape with all the kayaks..... stack em up... I don't know... I'm filling out of place with a 'canoe' LOL

Maybe Steve can build me a kayak before June :-)

water splitters - I thought I was really "doing good" when I managed to paddle at 3mph for a few minutes.

There is an easy answer to this. Keep track of all the water splitters and make then go twice the distance. Problem solved.

Night paddles at Fish Creek are great! You can either paddle up the quiet stream that feeds the ponds, or simply paddle around the ponds past all the night time gatherings around the fire. We've really enjoyed this a few times. You just have to be close near shore as there are the occasional low hanging or downed trees which can surprise you in the dark!

With all these small trailers on a row of sites that can handle huge 40ft+ RV's, we should have lots of room for setting up badminton or something for some fun events as well.

Anyone else bringing bikes? Its a great ride around the ponds. Bring them if you can.
