What a week:

No, Jack--I wasn't offended by the heathen worship thrown upon you in another thread declaring you God, and I didn't retreat because of that. No, that wasn't it.

But if you DO want to hear the times when I think there MAY be a God, it's usually associated with this expression:

"If you wanna hear God laugh, tell him your plans."

Sunday morning, rear tooth, ouch. Sunday afternoon, ouch OUCH. Sunday night, get me some heroin or get me a gun. Slept maybe 2 hours total that night, but I still shlep myslef into work Monday on the holiest Yid day of the year, Yom Kippur.

By lunchtime, I need heroin AND the gun. A bad absess, and I knew it.

Of course, I'm going to use a Jew dentist, because I don't care what ANYONE says here about being a liberal-- I ain't using someone from Pakistan or India. (The dot on the head distracts me.) And of course, on Yom Kippur, no Yid dentists are available. They're all in the temples praying that their practices continue to prosperous.

I go a guy on Tuesday, get my antibiotic RX, with the extraction scheduled for Thursday, and the tooth comes out. And I now spend Friday recuperating and writing this.

Four vacation days blown from work--days I wanted to take to bring the TD to the house to semi-finish up and ready for the trip to Anasastia in St. Augustine Nov. 10.-12. So I have 6.5 vacation days left for 2006.

I don't give a crap, and if I have to drag the thing up 95 myself towed from a rope attached to my ass, and if I have to use BAND-AIDS to seal it, I'll be there.

Unless God has other plans.
Here we go again!

I wondered where you went.........

So.. Ira. Why do you think God is punishing you?? You seem to run into more brick walls than anyone I know...

Or maybe those Jewish dentists know something you don't............ :R

God's not punishing Ira. God just has a warped sense of humor (look to me for proof!), and he enjoys reading Ira's accounts of the speed bumps he puts in Ira's way. Tell me you haven't tortured a friend just for a laugh.

Let us know how big a box of Band-Aids you need, Ira. We don't want you to miss your trip (so we can read about the hilarious exploits afterward!).
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Tell me about. I have bought my dentist a new boat and am personally responsible for setting up his son's college fund.

But Ira I feel your pain................

John, I think you'll agree that he throws a lot of roadblocks in a LOT of people's ways--but a lot of people are too embarrassed to admit it. (Not you.) The biggest roadblock he threw in my way was to make me a totally spastic builder.

Tony, I think you nailed it on the head. No Band-Aids though--just Vicodine.

And Chip, I have a lot more dental work to do as well. Luckily, we're on the cusp of the 06-07 benefits years.

I'm not going to sweat it--I shortened my list of 25 things to do to be ready to just 5 or so. Also not going to worry about buying EVERYTHING I wanted.

For 2 nights, I'm sure I'll survive. Just want to make sure hubs are greased, she's hitched well, and that I have my spare tire.

Edit for Bill:

I'm also getting ready for a long year of spending.

I'm not sure there is anything i detest more than going to the dentist. The way they charge for things, they make it much more appealing to just have them pulled instead of repairing them lol. A couple weeks ago, I was eating the very end of a fried chicken wing. You know....the part where you can eat the little crunchy bones. Well I'm crunching away and think " this bone is almost too hard to chew...." but I go at it. After I'm finished eating it, I realize I had just eaten the crown for my front tooth!!!! Connie calmly gets on the phone, calls our dentist, I go that afternoon. I'm waiting on the new crown to be made now, yup another $750.00 poured into this mouth of mine lol......
If your gonna be dumb, you gotta be tuff...

Now I'm really freaked. I'm having the same thoughts as Chip. Ever since reading Ira's plans for a "onion" type magazine I have been thinking we have been duped. Think about the facts. 1. A professional writer. 2. An alleged teardrop no one has seen. 3. Some of the funniest, unbelievable stories we have ever read. 4. A Jew from the Bronx who moved to Florida, how unbelievable is that. 5. A signature line that as good as admitted it was all photo-shop.
Now, I really hope I'm wrong, for these stories to end would be a loss to all of us.
PS please take this in the spirit it was intended

Ira....I've watched your build since I came on the forum...and you have amused me with all sorts of trials and tribulations throughout the build...It certainly has been a good time...my favorites are your references to the "associates" at the big box stores, and your attempt to acquire materials...I like how you speak your mind....now it's time to crap or get off the pot!!! We all look forward to seeing pics of the "Crab" no reference to your spouse, porn star or not  (and if you didn't get that reference, you missed the thread), but we want to see it actually being used. You have created such a stir around your build, you'll probably be mobbed at the gathering...Have a good time guy...thrown out of your neighborhood with your build...couple of hurricanes...everything else...now go use it....and make sure you post a trip dialogue...I'm sure it will be fun....take care...Doug

BROOKLYN--not the Bronx!

I'll make it there.

It's been said a thousand times before and it will be said a thousand times again--it doesn't have to be 100% done to use it.

I reskinned my countertop at home, and today I'm going over to the yard to intall it. (Just gonna drop it in for now.) I'll also be removing 3 other small galley skins, taking them home, and cutting the new skins using those pieces as templates. It's uncomfortable to do cutting over there, even though I have the saw horses.

Next week, I'll try to trim out the tops of the doors. Not going to worry about finishing out the door openings--raw wood for now.

Also, for the weekend, I HAVE to keep reminding myself that I'm not camping on Mars. If I forget something that I really need, I can borrow it or run to a store. Most important thing is the group dinner:

I'm making mushrooms stuffed with crab. The GOOD crab.

Ira: :eyebrows:

As Doug has implied we are all looking to your time out as a sort of birthing.
We have enjoyed your verbiage and antics with the oh so many trials and
tribulations. You have made our reads here fun and we sure wish you well.

Ira, You wrote:Most important thing is the group dinner:

I am glad to read your thoughts go to the camaraderie of human relations,
as expressed though conversation and food. The plus as far as I am
concerned would be to have some of "Ira's crab stuffed mushrooms". To me
it would be sort of a culmination of energy of your spirit, build and times
shared here. The symbol of crab is you for sure Ira and your tenacity. The
crab holds fast as does your writings of mirth with compassionate, intuitive
understanding. There sure has been a few smiles here thanks to you.
We will be with you in spirit Ira as you strike out for your first weekend.

Best wishes,

PS. Pictures will be needed. All those able to be with Ira click away, Please.
