Heikki...the ONLY reason luan is used is because it is cheap and thin...personally, I don't use it very often preferring to hunt for a thin Birch...any thin ply will work as well and probably look/finish better........

Ok I was going absolutely nuts here in search of it..even hunting for another name that it may possibly be found under but no luck till I called the plywood companies that make the ply here and they said its been off the market for years. I didnt know the reason for its popularity there in the States...
Yup I sure did find some real nice ( and thin) to every thickness imaginable here... And nice grain at that...
To top it off its a hair over 5 foot in width... Perfect...
So I thought to bring up the question on it...
