Pulling into the campground on the Sea of Tranquility must have turned heads with this tow rig?

I wonder what the tongue weight would be for the trailer?

So who can explain weightlessness to me:

If the guy needs weighted boots to hold him down, how come the trailer doesn't need anything to hold IT down? Is there a certain weight where you're not weightless any longer?

And please--the simple answer. Remember that you're explaining it to someone who got the lowest chemistry grade in South Shore High School history.

And in Brooklyn, that's saying a lot.
Here we go again!

I used to live in a small coastal town where the wind could blow and local law required that all caravans (trailers) had to be fitted with hold-down devices*.

If NASA had asked, I'm sure they would've let them borrow a set.

Andrew

*A caravan hold-down is a 3 foot length of angle with one end sharpened and the other end folded over - like a giant tent peg. One is brayed into the ground next to each stabiliser jack, until the folded-over end clamps the foot of the stabiliser to the ground.

Ira,

First off, those aren't weighted boots (although they do look like the kind used by Divers). You do have weight on the Moon, but its about one sixth of your weight on earth; a 180 lb man would weigh about 30 pounds on the Moon.

This entire weight reduction system was put into place so that the final tongue-weight of the trailer comes in at ~15 pounds; low enough for the Lunar Rover to pull it. 8)
