Two doors or one??? Poll...

Dean, if you go to Gage's website you'll see a nice photo of it attached to the tear. It is really nice, and very simple. I think he said he had someone sew it up for him, but since I have a sewing machine I will probably do mine myself. Seattle Fabric ( http://www.seattlefabrics.com/ ) has a great selection of outdoor waterproof fabric, including sunbrella. They cater to the boating community up here in Seattle, so they have a lot to choose from. Worth checking out if you think you want to sew up something yourself.

Pete & Lynn that went with us to Davidson River and Myrtle Beach has a set up like the little diner. Dropped floor and a table on a pedistal. Don't have any pictures of the inside, but it looked real good. Maybe can send you some.

Boy!, The more I think about it...Converting the table to bed or vica-versa, would be tons easier from two sides with two sets of hands..Some more R&D in the works! What was the pedistal like??

All of this chat about two doors has me thinking,,,How could a table be utilized, as, in the Lil'Diner, with two doors. I have two in the stripper, and really like them! I wonder about two doors with the table on a pedistal??? Any thoughts? Photos? I'm about to the point of "no return" on my framework. I could make the change easily now, not so..later

My current plan calls for my table w/clearance for both doors to set on a pedestal. The table and pedestal will be stowed in the dropped foot well while sleeping. The hard backed cushions will bridge the foot well.
Since everything is still on paper, I'm toying with the idea of using the table as the bridge for the foot well. I'll either need to add an additional bridge piece for the foot well or shorten the width of the foot well, so that the table is all that is needed to cover that area while sleeping. If I go that route, just the pedestal would be stowed in the foot well.

Thanx Bruce! You know? That site was one of the first teardrop sites that I ever looked at back a year ago. That's a real beauty too! I have it in a folder of favorites. I forgot about it 'til now! I've decided, I'm going for the table and two doors!! So..They'll be fraternal, not Identical twin 'Diners! I just need to figure out that pedestal!

Hey... About that pedestal; Somewhere here a short time back, there was a thread about pedestal tables. I can't remember who, but they recomended that the table top be allowed to pivot on the pedestal.
That would allow for more length on the table top, even with a door at each of the table. Just pivot the table top enough, to make room to exit or enter. Others already seated may have to slide to one side or the other.
(There are a few things that I'll be doing actual mock ups, before committing to, once drawing stops and building starts)

I have one door on my teardrop.
The early plans I saw for the original teardrops generally had only one door.
My tent only had one door.
My wife gets into bed first, and out last.
The dog gets in after her, before me, and gets out before her. The dog sleeps at the foot of the bed.
We have no desire for another door.

You can buy the pedistal & base & top at camper world. I have them in my tear for stools. Pete's was the same. the top & base stay in place the pedistal comes out and stores inside the footwell. The table itself would only be in the center, leaving about 12-15 inches on each side(filler pieces) for entry and exit. The filler pieces could lay flat inside the footwell while table is up, bridging the footwell along with the table at night.

Since the inside is pretty tight and all, I thought about building a basic table that hangs off the side of the tear. Something as simple as two eye screws, a board and a telescoping leg. Better yet, "clip" it on with two opposing drip rails, or u-channels. One would be permanently mounted to the TD, the other to the table edge and, again, a telescoping leg or triangular support going back to the TD. This would give you an outdoor table if none were available.

Better yet, I've got two heavy rectangular loops on the front of my trailer that were initially designed for motorcycle loading ramps or maybe for a forklift (a 2 x 8 should slide right into the loops). If I hang my table off the front, drop the front swivel jack and slide 2 x 8s (stored underneath) into my loops. Wala! An instant picnic table.

T.J. Trailer has flush or surface mount pedestals as well as legs at good prices. That's where I'll get mine.

It's a very small world with the 'net and all!! I found my way to Teardrops through a boat builders forum, The kayak forum, and look where I am now!! An Aussie on the other board says that he knows my work in boats..Really small world!!

That is very true, I was looking at designs for tree house cabins and ended up hitting a site with a pic of a tear. I saw it said tear drop under it and put it in as a search. I found 2 sites I really liked and this is the one I have stuck with since then. Now it wont be a cabin in the trees but I think it will be much better. I can go where I want to go, bye
