Postby 48Rob » Sun Oct 15, 2006 4:50 pm

It was a cool and overcast early fall Sunday , but since I have to work the rest of the time, I went touring anyway!

I've left some vacation pictures in the camera a long time, but nothing like this! Tell me the car wasn't new when you took the photos!

Nice restoration and beautiful scenery. Just wouldn't look the same with a new model car in the pictures. but maybe in 75 years . . .

"Wow--take a look at that Olds Aurora!"
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Rob:

Your Sunday escape brings to the foreground a simpler time.
Where road and machine expressed freedom. Like your afternoon delight
on a fall drive in country.

Thank you, for sharing your nostalgic ride down memory lanes where many
recall and have traveled before.

is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards." -------Theodore Roosevelt

Rob,

Lovely - I enjoyed looking at the hood. I'm guessing that's a 'signalling flap' in the driver's door sidescreen - nice!

Rob, those shots really are spectacular. They're not just "photos."

Living in south Florida, which isn't really green but rather washed out green, that car in those surroundings looks simply gorgeous.

Heck, I can almost feel the fresh, cool breeze.

Thanks all for the nice comments! :)

I enjoy taking pictures, though I was never very good at it.

Then, a couple years ago after a good winter of selling things on E bay, I found myself with enough profit to buy a good digital camera (SLR).
(on E bay, of course...)

Practicing now is fun and afordable!
In the last couple years, I've taken several thousand shots...never could have done that with film...

Andrew,

Yes, the "flap" is to allow the driver to extend his/her arm to signal a turn or stop.
I suppose it may have also been handy for those fellows who chewed tobacco... ;)

The car was restored in the late 60's, up close, it isn't nearly so perfect looking.
Pictures lie...

Yeah, take a ton of pictures and only show em' the good ones. If you take enough pictures, you are bound to get one good one.

BTW: Great pics!

While the law of averages does support the chances of getting a good one "now and then" the idea behind the volume is to learn from the mistakes.

Practice with factors such as light angles, shutter speed, composition, and many other things is what delivers better pictures.

I have a lot of how to books, but like school they just confuse me :? so practice practice!

That's right--take hundreds, but only show dozens.

And here's another trick, but it's so hard to remember to do it and takes practice to correctly execute:

When we take photos, we tend to concentrate our eye and attention on the subject. To take great photos, you have to scan and visual your entire frame as the final photo. I know this sounds obvious, but it's something 99% of us never do.

At one time, I was pretty good at it. Then I got old and forgot how to do it.
Here we go again!

Is that why when I take pictures invariably I get a great picture of the kids but also a great shot of some ones bent over back side?
