Camera is working fine now, and here's the reason it WASN'T working before:
I just went to Wal-Mart and bought a 1 Gig CF card. A cheap brand, Lexar, but at a cheap price too--around 50 bucks. And at this price, it's also the 80X ("X" means speed, I guess), High-Performance type.
Prior to this, I was using a really old CF card that had been sitting in my socks drawer for at least 2 years, since I gave my last CF camera to a homeless guy in the streets to start a career as an erotic photographer.
Anyway, it was the smell from those socks, although washed and clean, that damaged that card. Or it was damaged in the first place way back when but I didn't remember when, how or why. It formatted fine with the camera, no error alerts or anything, but that's why nothing came up when I went into playback mode. The card was bad.
Again, i don't rememember the reason I threw it in my socks drawer in the first place, right next to my Bamboo rolling paper, BB pistol, and marital aids. (I swear this is all true. I have almost everything in that drawer EXCEPT socks. )
So so far, life is still okay. Let me see if I can get my wife in a wild mood with my new camera so it will be WONDEFUL.
