I went to HF and viewed the PDF of the 48"x96" folding trailer, and it is the way Andrew drew it... (say that 5 times fast)...

Is this what you are wanting Ira, same width, and depth?

I'M IMPRESSED, MARY!

(Watch out Andrew--you have a little compettion.)

But where did you come up with that 21" depth? I just eyeballed it when I BUILT the thing, and I don't know the actual depth myself!

Plus, what would the length of the sides be, because that can't be the same 21, right? Or that measurement is so close to that that it doesn't matter anyway, right? An inch either way?

Finally, explain this to an idiot like me:

Your picture shows me overhanging the rails by a lot. This is totally throwing me off since Andrew's drawing doesn't on one side.

I told you I'm pitiful, which Andrew already knows, However, you've been here long enough to know this as well. I sure hope my kids don't inherit THESE genes of mine.

In other words, if I get the lengths of those side walls from you, and overhang it, I should be fine with that 65% swing?

Ira, I like Mary's box I think you could make it to match your tear. Glad to hear you finally got to spend some good time in the tear instead of figting it as you usually do.
Sorry about you smashing your box, But you still have to post the required pic's.

I'll see what time I get home tonight and use my wife's camera to take the shots. (It'll take me a month to figure out my NEW camera.)

Also, I wanted to pick up my flag brackets on the way home from the office now and mount them tonight to hold my broomstick hatch supports, because as you know, my tear just SCREAMS hi-tech!

And can you believe that there's a FLAG store--that's right, just flags and accessories--about a mile from my office? Problem is, they close at 5 or 5:30, and I usually go the bar...I mean synagogue...for a half-hour after work.

I hear this place ships a TON of American flags to Iran and other Muslim countries:

After they burn them, they have to be replaced for future burning.

Andrew mentioned it in his first reply, I assumed it meant 21" depth, from front to back of box...???

It can be what ever you want it to be.

er... Yes... it is actually 21 59/64" ...er

Ira wrote:Your picture shows me overhanging the rails by a lot. This is totally throwing me off since Andrew's drawings don't.

I am trying to keep the 44" length, and use a 22.5 degree angle....so you can set your skill saw @ 22.5 and make the cuts....

Ira wrote:In other words, if I get the lengths of those side walls from you, and overhang it, I should be fine with that 65% swing?

I am pretty sure this is correct, Andrew do you have any input, did I get it right?

I'm still trying to figure this all out in my head also, but I plan to give you a detail drawing with each peice to be cut so you don't have to stand and scratch your head too much. :scratchthinking:

So do you want it 21" deep, (from front to back)?
How tall do you want it?
Is 44" the correct length?

I'll give ya a first draft, and we can work from there.

First, throw that Skill-Saw and angle-cutting stuff out the window.

I have a jig saw, a circular saw, and I have made angle cuts with NEITHER.

I plan to frame the box with 1 by 2s, and then skin with thin stuff. Not solid ply. So those mitered corners don't have to be perfect since they'll be hidden anyway.

I made a decision:

I'm taking off work Friday to do this, and I probably won't sleep a wink THURSDAY night.

And yeah--I need the same height so I can use the same lid hinges in their current position. When I get home tonight, I'll definitely take tape measure to everything, including the crabs.

Unless my wife has marital needs, but what are the chances of THAT!?

Isn't a Skill Saw and circular the same thing? I think they are.... anywho

um, okay, did ya want me to do a drawing for ya? I don't mind. I can prob work the "1x2's in the design with the thin stuff"

That's where you threw me off:

A Skill Saw can be either a circular or jigsaw. It's a brand name, right?

I REALLY appreciate you doing those drawings with one by twos, because I already have 4 pieces of 8' poplar lengths.

Yes, but generally a Skillsaw is a circular saw. Sawzall is a brand name for a recip saw but other companies make them. Sawzall has become a generic term for a recip saw, like Band-aid is a generic term.

Ira, do you have a miter box??

Image

To do the angle w/ 1x2's you are going to need one,

big L has them for $15 or try walmart, I got mine there for like $12 make sure it has the 22.5 degree angle cut like this one @ the big L http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=p ... lpage=none

trust me..its easy...if I can do it, you can do it...I'm about as thick as they come...

I bought one once, but then I returned it the next day because I realized I didn't have any beer money.

And it was this same pretty yellow one, too!

STANLEY!!!

But my name is Ira--so am I allowed to use it? (I love that joke.)

I will buy. 22.5 degrees. Understood. I need it for trimming some stuff in the cabin anyway.

My wife will be SO happy.

hey, I just realized that 22.5 degrees times four means 90 degrees! Which is a right angle!

Or is 94 degrees a right angle? I can never remember...

90 degrees is a right angle...

22.5 degree angle is close to the angle on your tongue...( er hope you wife doesn't read these ;) ) if Andrew's drawing is correct.

I'll have you a drawing in the morning, is that okay? My internet service is kaput at the house, so I'll have to corrispond from here @ work.

Not in any photos I've seen. Here's the 1800lb HF:

The A-frame does end up at the full width of the frame, but only 12" or so behind the front edge.
