Skin questions...umm...about the hatch....not golf! <g>

Hi folks,

Well, leaving out the ugly details (will send them later, when I can use language children and women can read) I hope to skin the hatch tomorrow. Has anyone skinned their hatch and the rest of the T relying on ONLY Titebond 3 or Gorilla or similar adhesive to hold the skin on?

Is this an unnecessarily risky approach?

I did (I assume you mean the luan/plywood skin).

I used gorilla glue to hold the luan skin on. After that I skinned the tear with aluminum held in place with Henry's.

Over a year later and no problems.

Jim,

I used epoxy on my 1/4" oak ply skin. No nails, staples or screws. just epoxy, I didn't want to put any holes in the top. I've tortured plywood in the past and held it in place with epoxy when I've done a little boat building, seemed like a common practice in that field of endeavour.

I put screws in mine cause I used tightbond III and chickened on the idea of taking the screws out.

Lots of heavy things on top.
On the front curve I screwed some boards over each spar to hold the skin in place.
Then removed the boards when the glue was dry.
This of course would not work if you are doing a woody because it does leave screw holes.
I cover the tear with aluminum so it was not a problem.
