Has anyone built the ice box described in Kevin Hauser's plans for the 8' Cubby?

Hauser's plans describe a built-in ice box riveted together using sheet aluminum and insulated with foam. It's like the old-fashioned ice box your Great-Grandmother used to have. Ice sits on an ice shelf on at the top of the ice box. Food is placed in the bottom. Melted water continuously drains through a tube that extends below the floor of the trailer.

All this sounds good on paper. My food stays cold and dry and I don't have to drain the cooler every day. However, nothing beats real-world experience.

That's a great site you've got there. Your tear is comin' along nicely. The hand pic certainly brought back some memories of my journey with an out-of-control razor knife.

Ya know, if you can take your own stitches out, you can probably sew yourself up the next time it happens. It'll save you the trip to the emergency room.

Just bring a length of hose to hook to your drain spigot because otherwise you might wake up one morning in a puddle of mud.

Also, I'd prefer to have an old style door and latch like from the original trailer for two that, when open, reveals a Coleman 5-day cooler. That's be a nice combination of form and function.

The scar is gonna be a classic design with cross hatches... I guess if you have to have one, this is the one to have!

The stitching up did not hurt at all but the 3 needles in the hand stung like a sunofagun... The Dr said bee sting... Yikes! Felt like my hand was on fire. My wife said they sunk those needles in 3"... It bruised 3" up my wrist and to the knuckle of my thumb.

Anyway it is still a little red but is healing nicely. I can work on my tear from time again!

Thsi isn't quite what I had in mind for my TD. This ice box is more like a built-in cooler with a drain-tube in the bottom. Food and and ice are together in a single large compatment.

The ice box I have in mind has separate compartments for ice and food. Ice sits a the top compatment that loads from the top. Food sits in a bottom compartmet that loads from the front.

I made the Cubby Icebox. Sorry no pics yet. It was interesting. What took the most time was waiting for the new sealent to dry between testing it for leaks. Took me three times to get it right.
